636 tires

Thu Mar 11, 2010 7:03 pm

Hi guys,
I've never had to buy tires for this bike before ('02 zx6), and basically have no idea what I should be doing.

Can anyone recommend somewhere in Adelaide thats good, or what I should be aiming for with a reasonably priced all-rounder type tire?

There will be plenty of advice mate but what type of riding do you mainly do? IE are you commuting on the bike alot or do you mainly ride weekend stuff through the twisties? Will help in tyre choice and advice ;)

Mainly weekend riding, but I do occasionally commute. If its possible, I'm hoping for something that will get the best of both worlds :)

pilot road 2's . they will last about 10k kilometers and have pilot power edges for grip. or you could go pilot powers if you dont mind changing tyres about 6-7k kilometers

Go and see Martin at GC motorcycles. They have two sites now I think. One on Main North Rd at Medindie and another down south I think not far from St mary's or thereabouts.

If you are a weekend fanger in the adelaide hills, then I KNOW from experience your gunna need something on the front that will grip like shit to a blanket.( For those of you who havn't ridden the Adelaide Hills...do it before you die and do it before they turn the whole lot into 60kph )zones!

THe 6 is a bit lighter than the Rex I ride and I reckon the PR2's might be a little too hard for it. I'd go for Maybe a 2CT front and a PR2 or Power rear. Or, talk to someone who's used the new Dunlop Q2's. I've heard talk that they are PFG????

1 vote for the Q2's.
Very stable through corners and confidence inspiring.

+1 for Q2's. cant vouch for the long wear but they grip well ;)

i did a review of the Z6 Interacts a while ago here viewtopic.php?f=21&t=27412&start=0&hilit=z6+interact

i never did manage to test their longevity as the bike was written off, but after 3 months and more than 3000km (mainly communting and weekend rides) and a track day in between the tyres had plenty of life left in them.

When im up for tyres again id be definatelly putting another set on :kuda:

I just put on a pair of Michelin Pilot Powers. $399 fitted and balanced. Thought it was a good price, quoted $500+ for Metzler M3's and $550+ for the new Pilot Pures.

Initial impressions, feels VERY different when leaning. It encourages you to lean MORE and even MORE. But of course I need to scrub them in first to test this. :kuda:

They're back to just 1 site now Marty, Main Nth Rd Medindie (near office works), but I'd say shop around. GC used to be the best place to go in Adelaide, but their prices are just about the same as everywhere else now. I've go my last 2 tyres from SA Motorcycles at Gepps Cross. They are a Kwaka dealer, Evan the owner is a top bloke and they have been at least $30.00 a tyre cheaper than anywhere else I could find. I was running the Dunlops and loved them for my 2005 636, When the new bike arrives and the OEM tryes die, I'll probably go back to them.
