R.I.P 05ZX12R
managed to blow a hole about 3cm by 5cm out the front of my motor on saturday, she went off with a bang and a cloud of smoke.
on the up side it still ran, how i dont know, but i managed to get it home looking like a steam train as it smoked the whole way there. luckily it happened about 4km from home at the end of a poker run.

Given the floggings that old mate has mentioned in the past, my guess would be that he has lunched a crank, and spat a hole in the front of the block through the radiator......just a wild guess though....

yeh, seen it done before......a mate of mine lunched a CB750/4 crank once, blew a hole out the front of the motor ( and half a piston and rod) - it actually caught fire as he continued to ride along   but after a couple of k's, the fire blew out  - he made it home ( another k or 2 ) as the engine was finally seizing up from loss of oil. Probably less than 4 k's from where he lunched to home ??

The crank still spun freely, because it only had <1/2 a rod hanging off the buggered big-end, so it wasn't actually 'hanging-up' on anything as it spun around ......the other 3 cylinders kept firing.......bloody funny to watch !!

thats pretty close to the mark only didnt damage the radiator, the chunk out of the block must of hit the exhaust. No. 3 cylinder obviously didnt like what was going on.
