ZXR250C - Engine Mods

Postby zxr250c » Thu Apr 03, 2008 12:16 am

Hi all! I have 2 ZXR250 motors in the shed, one is in top condition (20,000 klm) minus the stator and lhs engine
cover and a crack in the head due to my mate running it into a round about! the other is in fair condition (58,000klm)
and is currently in the bike.

The cam chain is worn and one of the clutch plates is worn as shifting between first and second is very rough.
I am going to use both engines to make one good one.

Clutch plates and cam chain from the good motor into the motor that is in the bike.
I have a pipe on the bike and it sounds nice but no better performance, has anyone re-jetted their carb after changing their
pipe? If so please provide details. Parts for these things can't be that hard to find... Seriously!

I'm sure some of you, if not atleast one of you has a source... Do share.

Does the standard carby for the ZXR250C have restrictors in it?
Does anyone know a mechanic in Sydney that has experience working on these bikes?
Does anyone know a parts supplier in Sydney that I can order parts from - head gasket etc?

For my first post I think that's enough questions, I look forward to getting some feed back.
Will post some pics up shortly. Bike is stripped and fairings are being prepped for custom spray.

Peace.

Hi & welcome to KSRC
You say "Parts for these things can't be that hard to find... Seriously!" unfortunatley you might find it a little hard to get parts, These are "grey" imports & parts are not bought into the country in bulk like normal model releases :( Try R&B at Carringbah for the basics & as for Wreckers Metros at Silverwater should have wrecked one. Having trouble shifting will not be the clutch plates it will more likely be your Gear selector, if the clutch plates are worn the clutch will slip ;) Any bike shop will be able to rejet the carbs for you but the suggestion would be someone with a dyno to get it spot on.
Good luck with the rebuild & dont forget to post some progress pics

Hi and welcome, as RR has suggested, it sounds more like a shifter fork or shift drum or even a worn dog more than clutch plates????

As that is most likely the case, I would be swapping the heads over instead. Use everything from the good low k motor, except the head. 8)

So if its not the clutch plates it is a gear selector.... I'll have a look on the motor
that I am stripping. Hopefully I can pull the part off it.

I'm sending panels out for paint this week. I have primed them and ordered a nice sticker kit
online - all original stickers... I'm going to do a sky blue metallic with a black triangle on the
bottom of the side fairings (like the new kawa's) Stickers are white with a black shadow.

See pics of primed fairings below, took me a long time to sand them all back.
NOTE: Side fairings are missing, they are in the shed...

Will post more pics of the bike as it comes together. I saw another guy on here who had done his rims
gold with a polished outer edge on the rim - looked the money... I am going to do the same to my rims.

Have you got any of the special tools to pull apart the lower end e.g. rotor puller or clutch basket holder?

Mate, I can sell you a perfect little zxr2 2000 model, motor has low compression on cyl 1 and 2,
brand new tryres, almost new condition, for a mere $3,000. I kid you not, this bike is almost in brand new condition. I bought it and then took it Pro Honda at Rocklea and asked them to do whatever was required for roadworthy. TO BE HONEST, IT REQUIRES A REBUILD ON THE TOP END. WISCO HAVE THE PISTONS AND RINGS ECT. iF YOU'D LIKE TO BUY THIS BIKE, FOR [b] AROUND[ /b] 3,000, EMAIL ME , AND I'LL ARRANGE DELIVERY FOR YOU.
