Factory Pro Ignition Advancer

Postby Mitch » Sun Apr 27, 2008 6:02 am

Hi guys,

I managed to pick up a factory pro ignition advancer for my ZX7R. It is the adjustable type that allows anywhere from -7deg to +7deg. I was looking at the pack which has stuff all info on it about how to set it up thinking have I set this up right??? I am trying to set it up for +4 and have the screw set 3 holes from the right end on the inside plate and then I line up the 3rd hole on the outside plate with it and that should give me +4 (I hope).

Anyone else set one of these up before? Have I got it right?

I put a V & H 5 deg advancer in mine.. AS the igniter may also had some advance it (kit part) it may have been too much.
Went better with it than without, especially with race fuel.

btw Mitch, has the fuel cap arrived yet.? ;)
I was going to get one for my zxr as they said it was the same as the 10, but I checked the bottom hole ctrs and they were different. (they don't seem to have one that says zxr on it..)
The 96 may be different, but I thought it was the same.

It has been and gone back already, as you said the bottom holes were all wrong and the fuel filler hole was also off centre. The guy who sold it to me also paid for the postage back to him too

I ended up going +4 and it felt real strong until the motor destroyed no.3 piston. I don't know if it is linked to the engine melt down or not.

Thought I'd take a photo of mine while you guys are talking about it. Has 1.4 written on the side.....Not sure if this means +1.4 deg or 4 deg. It's not the 96 kit part as in the manual. Apparently they had differnet cranks / harness / timing on the 2000 model (which I have.) Here's a couple of pics anyway.
Note the Ti rods...yum yum

Cool, at least I know what the 1.4 means now....didn't even think about that.
Build is getting back up to speed. I'm just in the process of throwing the dry clutch in. I noticed one of the small springs was broken so I still need to find one of them. One of the teeth is missing on the oil pump drive as well but even though it still works, I'll try and fix that as well. Just been stuffing around with the carbon kevlar radiator shroud as well. Working out whether a single layer or dual layers will be needed. I think two layers will be fine. Pics ar of the test pieces only...ran out of kevlar so I couldn't do it in one piece....but you get the point. Just needs a good trim and some holes for forks / brake hose etc.

As for spares.....no rods / cranks etc.....they probably wouldn't work without the correct ecu. Aparenlty the 2000 crank needs a certain timing rotor and electrics. Can't even help you with the spare clutches I have. They won't suit the chain drive and you'd need the gear driven oil pump......rocking horse shit seems to be easier to find.
