ZXR250C - what can you tell me?

Postby Shifty » Thu Dec 06, 2007 10:33 pm

Just bought one, pretty good order requiring only one or two minor issues to be sorted 9as well as a little paint to tidy up some scratches).

Know nothing about them, it was just an opportunistic/impulse buy. What can you tell me? Any useful sites/info?

lotsa plastic, petrol goes in the top, loud noises come out the back (either the exhaust OR the pillion, the latter is optional) and hopefully only the black stuff touches the road.

Anything else you need to know? aside from useless sarcasm that is... ;-)

zxr250 is a 4 cylinder 250cc redlining at 18,000RPM (i think)

It's similar in performance to the honda cbr250 and the yamaha fzr250

One of the best 250's available, a grey import which ceased to be built in 1994, most company's who sell them say they are later model's when in fact thats just when it was complianced in australia...

thats all i remember =]
I cant think of a signature.

I have a colleague who recently bought a ZXR250 from a dealer, who shall remain nameless, at least for now. He's not the most cluey of blokes when it comes to bikes and was told his bike was a 2003 model. I know nothing about this model, but alarm bells were ringing straight away, as the bike looks a lot older than that. The compliance plate says something to the effect of ZXR250 2000, compliance 2003. Would this mean that the bike was manufactured in 2000? It is a grey import from Singapore, apparently. I think the guy needs to know how old the bike is, for peace of mind and possibly to beat the aforementioned dealer over the head, as they are maintaining it is a 2003 model! Surely they can't be so stupid as to knowingly mis-describe a bike (though I think I've answered my own question....). Any ZXR250 gurus on here who can help with solving the mystery of this bike? Ta.

As far as I know the last ones were made in 1999. The VIN should have the date of manufacture (month and year) stamped on it, and yes, the dealer is a deceptive pr!ck selling it as a 2003 model bike, but, caveat emptor. I think there must be a loophole in the law that allows dealers to advertise the compliance date, as there are quite a few how do so.
