Is it possible??

Tue Aug 03, 2010 9:03 pm

Hi Guys....Is it possible to replace rocket cover seal without having to remove front fairing and bring the engine forward to get to the seal to replace..Part costs $88 to buy and have been told labour cost up to 4 to 5 hours work.

almost impossible mate - I had to pull all that stuff off, and all the top covers over the cam-cover - just to replace a set of plugs in my 12......it took about an hour just to do this simple job. The 12's are *not* a maintenance-friendly bike - well I guess chain maintenance is an exception.....

I had a look at replacing the cam-cover gasket on the MFP12 after the Bonang County Incident earlier this year.....and just decided to leave this job until the valve clearances get done by the workshop. Far too much mucking around just to do 1 single rubber gasket....

i changed Hoffy's plugs piss easy.

we just took all his side fairings off, while we had the tank cover off stuck a k&n filter in, and then did the plugs. longest part of job was pulling fairings off.

i could see how maybe getting the rocker cover off may be difficult, main bit to be careful of would be the removal of all the coil wires. make sure they dont get mixed up.

Thanks for tha guys...it was worth a mention..wat really pisses me off :x :x is that only late Nov 09 i had a major service done at a bike shop which l probably can't mention...this service included valve clearance..at that time rocker cover seal ok and showing no signs of any oil stains..about 2 months later film of oil appeared...took it back...they said rocker cover seal worn.....i said this should have been replaced or at the very least lookd at at the time of valve clearance...they were not interested.....totop it off at the time of this service which by the way cost me just shy of 900....theyflushed out the radiator...contacted me the next day and said my radiator has major leaks... questioned them and said no leaks b4 service..they replied...that the flush had released any shit from the radiator which would have been plugging the leaks...l said perhaps one of your mechanics shoved a hose...and didn't do pressure test corretly resulting in radiator holes..again they denied this.....so had to hunt for a second hand 02 radiator shy of 480bucks....i was not a happy chappy
not whinging..but boy wish l could mention the shop..
Cheers :kuda:
