ZX7R Forks onto a ZX9R

Has anyone done this conversion and how did it go? Both 2000 model bikes.

I'm really unsure as to why you would contemplate this conversion?? The 2000 model (assuming you have an E model) forks are bloody fantastic. At best all they need is a revalve and respring to suit your weight. The forks on a ZX7 are crap in comparison IMHO.

If it's because you "Need" Upside down forks, then perhaps try something from a later model, with far better internals than the 7R has.

Won't fit with out machining the triple clamps, the zx7 has 52mm forks and the zx9 has 46mm forks I believe..

But as the others have said, nothing wrong with the zx9 forks.. Mine worked fine.

There is nothing really wrong with the existing forks, but I am advised that the internals of the nine will fit the 7 fork legs. We are looking for more rigidity in the top of the front end and less unsprung weight. But I am unsure of the lengths of one compared to the other.

put a fork brace on it and get it re-valved...

Can't adjust preload on ZX7R forks (unless RR) either

I have contemplated trying to shoe-horn a set of zx12r forks into the front of the 9 one day to take advantage of the radial callipers. I think I'll do it at the same time as I put the injected engine into it ..... not for a while yet

A Sense of humour? That'd be fine if you knew me or I knew you... my question was a serious one and maybe, just maybe, I have had a day dealing with dickheads and took your response the wrong way. I apologise if that is the case...

So in all seriousness, I ride the bike for business... it is my office, it does 1000 km days as well as Trackdays, and the few blokes that know me in here will attest to how I ride it. I do not do this so that others will be impressed, I do it because I can and need to justify it to no-one but myself. There are many things I have done to the bike that makes it a weapon already and when I get the chance to do a trackday, there are not many on 10's that can keep up when I am in the mood. But I am not as young as I once was, so I play with things... if I could find a ZX10R front end at the right price, then we would be having that discussion... and then when I do the Muzzy 998 Kit, we will have that one. Until then, I would just love for any advice from someone who may or may not have done this... so far I have learnt that there is no preload adjustment on the 7 forks... so thank you all for that.

I'm pretty sure what Marty was getting at is that a well set up 46mm zx9 fork is a perfect match with the 9 frame allowing it to work properly, you'd have to be going pretty hard to get them to not be fixable for your liking afer a seeing to by a reputed suspension Guru. MicK Cole would be able to help you - or know someone that could I'd say

The 7 forks are heavier , have less adjustability and only offer the same brakes (in std form) as the 9 already has . A ZX10/12/14 would be a better option seeing as whatever USD for you go is going to require new or custom triple clamps. That way you get radial brakes, might as well go the front wheel as well while yer at it.

Thanks Phil, I have a Suspension bloke that I use in Melbourne and yes, we would love to get our hands on a Set of ZX10R Forks for the reasons you write. Exploring we are and good with the Farce are we...

but you go zx10 forks you end up with shit fading brakes...

robracer stuck gixxer 1000 front end on his Z750, which TIM (kawasaki250) now owns. New triple clamps was pretty much all that was needed.

there are hundreds of better forks and brakes out there than ZX7 ones. dont be scared to swap brands.

but at the end of the day, the ZX9 conventional forks are perfectly fine. they used them in FX and ASBK and still went ok.
