Nice Turbo ZX9R

This is for all those litre bikes out there and above. :P
But for the cost of doin all that, I would just go buy a faster bike.
Tidy unit. To many gauges.

if it wasnt for all the guages, it would be a bit of a sleeper

looks a bit lean too, i saw 10:1 a few times... i wouldnt want it below about 12

10:1 is rich as, too rich. Those gauges are a waste of space, I struggle to keep an eye on much other than the tacho when riding with a bit of vigour.

Aside from straight line though I wonder how usable it would be on tight, twisty roads, or the track for that matter.
Says alot for the strength of the KHI engine to allow this sort of output.
There was of course the GPZ900 turbo in years gone by but I don't think they put out more than 2.5 psi boost - and even then less than 100hp at the rear wheel.
Very tidy bike overall. I love the fact that this was done "Just because we can"
As if you wouldn't be absolutely creaming yourself just to have go 8)
Edit: Just watched it again.
That brake fluid looks a little old and gungy though - Make it go fast but be sure it can be stopped!

Oh and as for " Gotta love the 9"
Sure bloody do!
Do we really have to wait another 20 years for KHI to produce another version for us nostalgia buffs?

I can tell you right now, absolutely shithouse.

One of my good mates (currently rides a black Crim) started riding on a GPz550 back in the mid 80's. He traded it in on a GPz750 Turbo. The best of the jap turbo bikes at the time.

Off-boost, it was a pig. Imagine, if you can, riding a naturally-aspirated z750 with 6:1 compression pistons. Well, they don't respond very well at all.........

Coming onto *the pipe* as it were, well the little turbo would just take off like a jet. It was quicker on boost than the equivalent GPz1100 of the same era ( I did a number of runs down one of the local 'parkways' testing this theory late at night..... )

Out in the mountains, you simply could not punt the bike quickly at all. Most tight'n'twisty stuff requires *immediate* response, not a *build-up-then-blast* response, which almost saw me over the side of Mt Macdonald on several corners.......it was quite the sphincter-puckering experience. :?

Anyone who tells you that turbo bikes are great for hard-core twisty mountain riding is totally full of shit. What they are good for is wiping the floor with most other bikes, in a straight line, and *thats it*. Good fun sure enough, but any half-decent pilot on a naturally aspirated bike is going to hose any turbo bike once the road is anything except dead straight.......

being the cyclopedia that you are GOS. am I right it was a 900 turbo? I know I have seen one in the distinctive black and red color scheme and I assumed it was a 900. Or were they only 7fiddys?
edit: Had the cool staged LCD "boost" gauge mounted fo' ward of the tank cap.

no, they were only released as a 750 turbo - basically what you got was a normal GPz 750, wrapped with different bodywork and some additional frame bracing, and that really nice black & red paintjob. Plus the blower of course......

They were without any doubt the best turbo of all the jap models......the CX650 Plastic Maggot jobbie was abominable, the XN85 soozie was very forgettable, and the Yammie XJ650-based number was as ugly as a hat full of Mick Dundees......

the boost-guage !!!! muahahah what a stupid place to put it, down on the tank !! like you would be looking at the tank cap when the boost hit !!! FFS .......
