great bike - some early issues with oil wicking up the alternator wiring and causing grief for the electrical system apparently.....not sure if this still affected the 02/03 models. 6-pot calipers are pretty poor compared to the 4-pot radials. Fuel pumps can fail but are an easy fix. Fuel consumption varies from shithouse to really bad. Have been known to chew out rear tyres.

Also can be hazardous to your licence and demerit points. At least you will lose them with a smile

awesome bike

loved this bike, has lots of hoodlum in it. rear tyres dont last but ya get that.

My biggest issue with this bike is fuel consumption, about 230kms till your are walking, which is not enough for this great counrty of ours. zx14 solved the fuel/distance issues but a little more civilised

nah mate, way more goods than bads. They are a lot of bike though, we dont call 'em The Barge for nothing. Big compared to a 636 you need to muscle them around a bit but they have excellent speed when you wick it up a bit..... :P :P

me think Gos protesteth too much.....

fuel consumption is ok if you treat the right hand easy on the throttle...mind you 1mm rotation is the difference between 'I am being good Officer...to go to Jail and pay BIG fine stuff'
and anyway I dunno why people complain about fuel consumption... you do NOT buy a 12 for fuel economy or rear tyre life  but still my 2001 12R only sniffs the 98 Premium on
a 300km tank so I cannot complain . Gos says the earlier 6pottters are poor brakes but with decent pads and new fluids I have no complaints with them on my A model
(just who DOES stoppies on a 12 f'gawdssake)

just buy one..the 12 is a great bike :D
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

I used to do stoppies on my 9 all the time,

Tried to do one on my 05 12, after putting a pilot 2 on it.

This was not a good day, and the closest I ever came to actually crapping myself

+1 to smitty.

Smitty - you are the only 12 rider *in the world* who has managed to drag more than 250-odd km out of a tank of guzzoline on a Barge ! How you do this is beyond the comprehension of the rest of us 12 riders  -

The 6-pot calipers are OK - but the radial 4-spotters Tokicos are much better and the Nissins are even better again. If the 6-spotters were any good we would still all be using them..... ;). Changing to a 19mm radial m/c provides a massive increase in stopping power over the stock m/c as well.

Any bike can be improved and the mighty 12 is no exception - but I think the pick of this model is the later B-models. Especially when you sort the suspension out.

myy636 - if you can, take one for a test-ride. Preferably away from the burbs, somewhere you can open the taps.

link works OK - not bad maybe a tad overpriced for a bike that is nearly 10 years old, but it does look to be in good nick. 50k on the clock its barely run in
