ZX9R Frame

Postby ZX9erguy » Wed May 13, 2009 1:00 pm

Just wondering if anybody has had or heard of a 2000 ZX9r with a small crack in the frame near the lefthand side right about middle of the tank. The bike has never been dropped and after checkin mounts etc found nothin wrong. Kawasaki Have never heard of the problem either. It has been repaired but the engineers couldnt explain it either cause of thier opinion it isnt really a stress point. Any info would be good.

That sounds very strange indeed. If it really hasn't been crashed (run into something without falling over???) I'd be most inclined to go with manufacturing fault rather than wheelies (I'd expect wheelies to damage around the headstock rather than down one of the frame spars).

The crack was repaired bout a month ago. Only thing i could think of was about 6 months ago i hit one of those really sharp deep pot holes. It didnt damage anything else and i was doin about 80klm/h. That is the only thing i can think of that may have caused it. But even then i didnt notice it till a couple of months later. It is in plain sight so there is no way of over lookin it if it had happened straight away. When she was in bits for the crack to be fixed the engineers meassured and checked the frame for twist and all that and they tell me it is perfect.

Mine did it - but under severe cicumstances. A mates did it also after a small drop. It seems to be an inherent fault possibly caused by the design and metalurgy.
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

Might be a Kwaka thing, my ZXR 7/9 L has a crack in exactly the same place.
