Latest ZRX mod - in

After talking to Nelso a while back and him telling me how much smoother his gearchange was after he fitted a KWICK slipper clutch http://kwickstand.net/Hyper-Formance.co ... _Slip.html I was thinking about one. Then - after a really crap day at work - I decided on some retail therapy.

Due to being busy at work, going away with asbk and other little things I do, assignments etc I got sick of the thing sitting in a box in the garage - next to my other mod I am hanging to get on ;)

Bike went in for its service getting ready for the PI trip this week so I asked the mechanic if he could fit it all up while it was there an half apart. I also - on Nelso's & Pete's advice - got the ZR1100 inner hub from Kawsaki Connection to put in as well.

Well, I am impressed, just as Nelso said the gear change is much smoother so I am very happy with the result. I also had a good bit of feedback from Scott the Mechanic, he was impressed as well after he test rode it after the service. He also commented that my cam lobes etc were in pretty good condition for the 15K on the bike......15K I said  , yeh, well thats whats on the speedo...........Nah mate, thats the new speedo, I smashed the other one to smitherines at 64986....14 k's off 65000K. The bike has done over 80K now   .........

He could not beleive it, as most owners would know there have been some issue with cam lobes pitting very early in the serviceable life, it would appear that mine were not inflicted with this issue.......and he said the bike is clean as inside - another reason why he thought it only had 15K on it.

All I need to do now is fit the new M5's sitting in the garage to stop it steering like a shopping trolley and I'm ready for the GP woooo hoooo.

My ZRX is going into the Mechanics next Tuesday for some TLC. No tasty bits to be added unfortunately, but this is on the list of wants in the near future...

I have been looking at the slipper clutch for a while but was not sure if its worth the effort. Ill be interested to hear your thoughts on it after a PI tour.

$375 us + postage for the kit from Kwick, It does come complete and you dont "have" to have the ZR clutch hub, but as Pete says on his website "This hub does not contain the heavy spring & cam damper setup that the standard one has. This is not necessary, but it makes a trick addition!"

I honestly can't remember how much the ZR1100 hub was, but less than $150 from memory.

As a fellow member (JimZXR) said, "thats less than the rebuilt kit for my ZXR L model clutch"....... nuff said.

I forgot you were on here :o

The mod would definitely suit my style of riding. Whats the cost to send it to Aus?

I had mine in before the Supers CDT earlier this year and have put quite a few K's on it now. It makes it so much easier to change down gears going into corners, which you really notice when you are having a dip. The heavier springs also mean the clutch doesn't slip when you 'accidentally' slip the clutch and send the front wheel into the air. ;)

If you change down gears going into corners and unsettle the bike every now and then, it is worth the effort. I also had the slipper clutch on the track bike and would get used to it and then get caught out on the road occasionally, so for me, it was definitely worth the effort.
