ZRX, I love it to death, BUT

Postby Whickle » Tue Oct 18, 2011 5:11 pm

*RANT*

Its a fucking lemon!

I have had the bike now since September 2009 and sadly, have had one thing go wrong after another. Its really beginning to shit me off to the point of selling it :? I have never owned a vehicle that has had so much shit go wrong with it. All in under 20,000 k's (has 60000 on clock now)

The fucking thing requires its own credit card just to keep it on the road.

*/End Rant*

So, should I just fix everything and keep it, or fook it off and buy a Z1000?

I love the bike, but I'm tired of fixing it up, not to mention the cost of it all.

Thoughts?

depends on what issues you've had and if they will re-appear.

if youve fixed the issues with improved parts, then just keep it.

what has been the problems?

a lot of ZrX owners here would be keen to know.

iamwithstupid.gif I'd like to know what's gone wrong with it. Mine has over 25000km on it and all that has gone wrong was losing two bolts out of the frame. Apart from regular services and replacing the front brake pads as well as six sets of tyres, that's all that's been done to it........ except all of the modifications of course.

I had a battery go and holed a carb Diaphragm from shit in the tank from the crash. Apart from that, it's been faultless and now has nearly 80,000klms on it. I reckon it''s coming due for a cam chain, but that's normal maintenance anyway. Sorry to hear yours is so much trouble. Is it possible it's operator error????? ;) ;) ;) ;)

I have always maintained the bike to the book and then some. It has had all new parts, mostly after market high quality parts where OEM was not used.

Starter clutch repaired, Clutch slave cylinder replaced due to corrosion/damage, clutch friction plates result of the later, gaskets - (Cylinder head/spark plug), lost swing arm nut - a few bits got damaged as the swing arm moved slightly.

The other things that are required are service items that come with a bike @ 60,000 k's. Front/rear discs and pads, fork seal (blew today) cam chain, tune up, Chain/sprockets.

All up, its a fair few $$$.

The last major service was done by an old school mechanic. His comments on the bottom of the docket said the bike was in very good nick physically and mechanically.

It may just be bad luck with this bike, but I did noting but service my learner bike in 18 months and I did 3 times the Km's on it compared to the ZRX in the same period.

At this rate, the Christmas track day is looking like a dream.

over a 108000km & all i've "had" to do is the generator chain tensioner & remove a bit of dirt from a brake caliper barrel

but, to be fair, i did change the front discs, all the chassis bearings & switch to A5 suspension at around 50000

I dunno, my c model 9 had new disks at 55K (they did bring the next model out with thicker disks), 60k out a set of disks if you use them is about average, you racing types obviously dont use them like we mortals do Billy.

I have had very few issues with mine, the swingarm bolt comming loose is a known issue, I check mine regularly. Starter clutch is "just one of thos things" my mate had a seven that had the same problem. Dont know if I'd call it a lemon with those issue's though.

Plenty of ZRX's here that get ridden hard, often, in all weather conditions with few issues. Its you call on to keep it of buy a zed, two different types of bikes and after just riding my ZRX to the island I will never sell it - it was bloody brilliant.

i've saved everything but the bearings for spares

hahahahaha massive bike whore you....

Whicks - sounds like you have just hit that point at 60k, where a few things are going to need fixing for the first time ? Apart from the known issues like the starter clutch fix and loose swingarm etc - those other things - brake pads, fork seals etc - once these are done you should be good for another 50+k without drama ?

Brake pads - mate you should try owning a barge. I get 6 months per set, and they cost >$120 a set !! Its crap !!
