Hey all!

New member, long time rider. Got myself a brand new, one of those Storm Trooper looking ER-6n's. Loving the bike, very easy to ride, great torque down low and very nice all rounder riding position.

I am however having 2 issues with it, 1st, I get a nasty vibration through the stem at about 4000rpm, now I now twins are meant to have a vibration, cause thats part of the reason for owning a twin, but this just seems out of place,

2nd is it bikefire's all the time, changing down, backing off, winding the power on.

Has anyone else experienced something like this with the ER6?

btw, just about to clock up 1000k's.

Cheers for ya help in advance,

Scott.

I think the backfire is just the clean air system doing it's job. My Z1000 backfires all the time from that device. Vibrations are common on all bikes except a Harley which has perfect dynamic, static, kinetic, metric, inch/pound, EMF balance, kind of like it was made by pig farmers in Kansas. Still, your ER is a fairly new machine and I would talk to the dealer. Oh and have a Jim Beam and a beer. Jim Beam, one of the few quality items made in the U.S.A.

Like oldman said ask the dealer. And 1000km is a first service isnt it? Have the mechanic look at it ;)

Backing firing with the winding of the power on is interesting.

ER6ns are a vibey bike. I own two of the suckers- 06 and 07. Later ones like yours have a rubber mounted engine rather than the solid ones mine have in order to lower the vibes. One of mine is worse than the other. I read that the rubber mounting fixed the issue. Maybe not. Backfiring might be an injection/ignition issue. Might need the throttle bodies balanced. Let us know how you go. :)

G'day Scott - assuming you bought the bike from Kelen's in Penrith .... definitely take it back and have the backfiring problem checked out. The vibration may be a front wheel balance issue .... however, the ER is a twin so you may have to live with it.

A good mechanic can reduce most of the vibration. Think its the throttle bodies. Mine also had vibration at 4000rpm when I first got it. Don't know if its deliberate but not supposed to go over 4000rpm during run in. I get a bit of crackling but no major backfire. See what happens after the 1000k service. The dealer can run all the diagnostics. My engine didn't really smooth out till after 5000k.

G'day and welcome,
i too have an er6n(L) just clocked over 1300km and i reckon the vibes have gotten bad or worse. yes and a slight backfire when backing off the throttle sometimes feeling like it about to stall!! anyhow i still love it, i also read that changing a sprocket can make some difference, so let me know how you go/
cheers Jon

got the bike in for its 1000km service so will see what they have to say about the backfire/missfire and post up what they think talking to the service manager this morning he thinks it may be an overfueling issue as the earlier gs500 aparently had a simmilar issue
