what cold air pressure are you guys running in your Metzler M5 front & why?

36, cause thats what I have run with Metzlers since 94. With good results I might add. I find they like a few PSI more than other brands of tyres, 36/42 works for me on the ZRX

gracias...i was thinkin' 37 to help prevent "scalloping" while slabbing it...

it worked quite well with the M1...

but i do want to let the sides collapse properly

I have been running 38/40 on the 12R and a few less for a days play in the twisties.

I might try your suggestion Phil.

I prefer 40/42 on mine with the Michelin Pilot Road 2. The tyre's walls recommend 42/42 though...

I have a new one fitted to the front, rim is on and reay to go. Not so the rear, tyre is on but the rim is still off as I wait for new cush drive rubbers.

The Z is next up for M5's with a 190/55 going on the rear. I'll rip the rims off as soon as the ZRX is back on the road. Both bikes are getting new Galfer rear wave rotors I have had them sitting here for about 8-9 months waiting for a reason to rip the rear rims off

Intersting calculation, the ZRX did 7500 on its last set of M5's, the lighter less torquey Z did a set of M3's in just over 6000. 1500 more on a heavier bike with more grunt (and a CDT) I think is brilliant. I never usually get more than 5-5500 out of a set of tyres Maybee im slower these days and thats why

well i did the math & if my new M5/Z8 combo meets or exceeds the longevity (completely shagged) of the M1/Z6 i should be good for 13-15000km

did have a couple of grip issues both on the power & tapping the back brake (cop) with the Z8 ...but it could have been dodgy asphalt or dust (hasn't rained for a while) or both

it turns sweet though...should be a good "brisk touring" set-up

btw trying 37/40 for starters (the Z8 has a very firm carcass)

hmmmm the mighty ZRX1200S is almost due for a new set of shoes........ so far I am pretty sure that I have managed a lazy 17 odd thousand out of the PR2s.......... the rear is a little worse for wear........ due to some serious slabbing action...........

I think i will give the PR3s a crack at the title!

I managed the same distance from an M3 on the rear as the Z6 I fitted next,(approx 9500k,s) work that out.

I think it is because the M gripped where the Z may have suffered cold tearing or wheel spin, we don't have what most people recognise as roads around Mackay, we just have potholes & repaired potholes, so the road is very abrasive.

The only reason I would not use an M series again is they appear to have followed Michelin's lead in making the tyre carcass as light (read thin) as possible, meaning a far higher chance of puncturing.

Also the M3 self destructed upon reaching the tread wear indicators, chunks flew out it every where in a 40 klm ride.

I have just worn out a Pirelli Angel rear in 9700 k,s & fitted a Z8, I totally agree with the carcass construction being firm on the Z8, I usually run 36 psi in the rear (no or lightly loaded), but thinking of dropping cause the ride is pretty rough with this tyre (taking our road conditions into account).

I did put it through its paces on the weekend & it gripped well.

The Angels were great till the last 1000 k's when they started to slip, changed the rear out with probably close to 750 k's left to the limit indicators as lack of grip was becoming a problem.

Local Michelin Rep in WA recommends sticking with the PR2s in hotter countries such as ours (except of course Tasmania). PR3s are ok in cooler climes, such as Europe.

Just did a few k's to go and have a look at a bike - not for me - with the new M5's. Isn't it amazing how good a bike feels with new tyres .

Anyway was only in the city, and some of the roads were a little damp so nothing to radical, but fook me they felt nice

Mmmmm....not sure how accurate that is. My understanding is that the PR3's are a harder compound than the PR2's. So, one would assume, also more suitable for a hotter climate. Maybe your rep is trying to push some older stock??

Hope the above isn't true. Got two sets of PR3s sitting in shed waiting to go on. One for ZRX and one for mates XJR13. Scary....
