The Rarest Kawasaki Naked?

Postby Deanoseadog » Wed Mar 02, 2011 5:04 pm

So is my '86 BR250 the rarest Naked Kawasaki ever made.......maybe I should have left it standard
Or does someone else here have one? I only know of one other.......maybe I'm just a sucker with a lemon  hehe.
Surely they can't have all dissapeared?
Here's mine

And can I say how much I love that this forum has a "tupperware free" section! :kuda:

speaking of tupperware :o could i interest you in a lovely set of containers  but wait, buy know and you can have the lids. But seriously it always pays to keep them original ,especially if you are hoping to cash in on it one day ,but hey bike looks good ,did you rebuild from scratch or just make the changes. 8)

Nothing lemony about a BR250. They are a very underated little motorbike. I really like what you have done with yours. Overcapitolised for sure, but definately unique. 8)

Rebuilt from scratch. Painted frame, but plastics/tank are original. Not really concerned with "cashing in" I don't seriously think these will ever be worth anything...and thats kinda why I bought it. Wanted something to just ride into the ground over the next 20 years or something.

I used to run a Kawasaki dealership and was well known as the BR specialist. Any dealer who was trying to trade one would always price it with me, as we had an uncanny knack of selling them hand over fist. One of those bikes which never really took off in sales, but really are a great bike. Bit of a 250cc ZRX1200!!!!!!! ;) That monoshock conversion is a cracker mate. How does it ride after that? Look like you have steepened the geometry somewhat.

Ah....Strika, I see you are wise to the ways......
Yes, it's great little bike. Totally underrated.
It rides great with the GSXR shock in the back! I used KLR swinger and linkage. Set the leverage so that it's more linear and not too stiff at all. Probably one of the best handling bikes I've owned, especially now that the head angle is at about 24deg rather than the 27 it came with. It sits a little higher than standard as well which helps with the ground clearance. Still a few tweaks to go yet but it's 90% there.
I wouldn't say over capitalised....ebay is a bike builders best friend 8) . It owes me about 3 large incl purchase price of the bike. And I'd rather this than anything else in that price range ;)
Glad it still gets a few looks.
Thanks

Well at that spend, you obviously know a little about twirling a spanner or two. Good to see!!! Did you do a little progress blog on it, or are you not a computer nerd. I'd just love to see the progress photos and what you did. It is an interesting little bike mate...credit to you :D

Looks fantastic. ;) Never seen one before but looking at some stockers you've put some effort into yours.

Thats a very tidy little beast and certainly very unique. Nice work. Like Marty said it would be great to see some progress photo's.

Here's a few shots i took during the build.
There are more photos and a list of mods over in the "show us your ride" section. ( I think thats what it's called )
It took me about a year to build, and just before I finished it "they" more than doubled the price of greenslips for 250's!!
Anyway, short term it needs a quicker throttle tube, and a bigger front master cylinder, maybe a quieter muffler.
Long term maybe, a KX450 engine or a turbo, spare set of wheels with slicks for the track, a little flyscreen, solo seat cowl.
I'm loving riding it at the moment though. Really brings a smile to my face :D

I wound up the rear preload a little last weekend. Heaps better now. Feels more balanced.
So there you go. For all you people running an '02 GSXR shock in your BR250.......just set the rear preload at about 10mm and it should be sweet!
Can't wait to get this thing to the creek! I'll be sure and take my calender so I can post up some lap times! 8)
