New bars for the Rex? - Formally bar end thread

Postby Whickle » Tue Apr 13, 2010 9:24 pm

Hi all,

Just tried to remove my bar ends to put on some mirrors and could not remove the part that sits inside the bar itself. Looked like it was glued or soldered in there bloody well.

Short of tackling it with the big hammer, neither would budge

Have any of my fellow ZRX pilots had this drama or know a way to remove the offending part? Ill try to get some pics, but not tonight

Any ideas :?

Don't know about the ZRX but the Z1000 standard bar's have a thread welded into the bar's that can't be remove'd :x ....I could not use the standard expandable rubber insert bar end mirror's and just turned down the original bar end bolt's to use with the mirror's if that make's sense....

I still have the turned down bolt's if they are any help to you :kuda:

you won't be able to move those mate - they are part of the bar itself.

You should be able to attach the bar-end mirrors using this bit anyway ?? The mirrors are just bolted in ?

BTW - prepare for a lot more vibration in the grips when you remove the end-weights. These act as absorbers for the harmonics which travel through the bars - taking them off will allow the harmonics to give your hands/fingers a lot more exposure to vibration.

Thanks guys,

I went to great lengths to find bar end mirrors that are very heavy. These suckers weigh just under the standard ones.

They are bolt on, but the have to be mounted the same as a standard bar end!

So, the new question is, what bars should i get for the Rex?

These?

These?

or

These?

My order of preference is (1) drag bars (3) low rise (2) medium - I've had drag bars on the REX and you've just gotta flip the bar mounts 180' to clear the tank.
Great position with drags. I changed to Coerce low rise and am happy with them (they're close to your no 3). Only reason I changed was I prefer the look of the low rise.
Try looking up drag bars on Google - some interesting sites ;)

#3 - standard low-rise bars are the pick of the bunch.

heavy mirrors is a good idea - can you post up a pic of them ?

I run the Coerce low comp too, same as TC....nice bars.
With the threaded bar end in the stock bars, they're not too hard to remove. I just carefully cut through the solder and they came out, there's not too much on there.... its just a threaded alloy plug.....
I re-used and welded them into my coerce bars to attach the bar end mirrors..
Hope that helps... :)

The TAG Bars I had on the ER5 were pretty nice, similar to the braced ones in your post.

They may be a little wider than yo want though.
