Z1000 aftermarket handlebars

Postby WillZ1 » Tue Jul 21, 2009 1:04 pm

I’m looking to put aftermarket bars on my bike however don’t want them to be any wider than the originals.

Any recommendations to suit 06 z1000.

I was recommended Renthal - ultra low or fatbars, does anyone have these fitted?

Cheers
Will

Yeah, any bars will fit, depends what shape bar your after, if you're going to buy new Renthals or Pro Tapers, make sure they're the shape you want, cos they are expensive, if you go FatBars, you'll need to change the risers, or get the adapter(more$$$). I put Motocross Renthals on mine, not a bad feel, a bit too straight and not enough return(how far it bends back towards you), and at higher speed, having the wider bars made the steering twitchy without a dampner.

My suggestion, get the narrowest bar with the most return and the lowest height. If you get Renthals or ProTapers, they are hollow and you can make them narrower by cutting some of the bar off the ends before mounting your controls.

hope that helps.

If you want to stay as original as possible, measure the pull back and height of the originals. Then you can check online for the heights of the bars, and you can find the nearest match.

I went the lowest renthal road bars & whatever you do dont get ones with the cross brace, it looks out of place. Have a look in the Renthal catalogue, there are heaps to choose from ;)

i have renthal street fighter bars on my 04 Z1000 and love them. they are lower and straighter than stock and have a cross brace which i like the look of. remember after market bars are hollow so you will have to buy new end weights (stock ones screw in). get the heavyist ones you can to reduce vibration. you can also fill the bars with something heavy like lead sinkers to reduce vibes even more

i didnt modify them. they are slightly wider than the factory ones. i was like you and wanted them no wider than stock. i used some stainless steel ( for the weight ) universal bar ends from http://ausfr.com.au/index.asp they are great people to deal with and are very friendly and helpfull i have got heaps of stuff from them.

forgot to mention im using CRG lane splitter bar end mirrors and everything fits ( just ).

I just put stock 07 speed triple bars on my Z750 yesterday, they are bloody awsome. I'm not sure of Z1000 stock bars are different to Z750, but the Z750 bars felt like they had too much pull-back, and could be a tad wider. I got the triumph bars off a mate, but i was looking at the superbike bars on AUSFR.com.au for around $85 which is cheaper than renthals. Going by the measurements the superbike bars are very similar to the Triumph bars. If you need bar end weights, AUSFR is definately the place to get them, all they're stuff is top quality.

Matey, I have a pair of Renthals in silver I have just taken off my Thou, you can have em for $50 if you want, great condition and just the right position, pretty sure they are 'lows'.
Saki can vouch for the ride position, just look at his Avatar
I only took em off cause I wanted gold
I'm in Parra all week you can pick em from my work if you want
