ER6 or Z750, which should I choose?

I have been looking at a second bike and considering the ER6 and the Z750, Both current models.
I need a bike that is suitable for my wife to ride, she likes the ZX6R but it has to much of that lean forward feel for her and she would like to have a bike that has a more upright seating position. would like something with enough go but not to much, am I making sense

Has anyone had a ride on either or both of these bikes? how do they compare power wise? is the 750 more revvy?

Very interested to hear peoples opinions,

Thanks :)

Hi Tony,

The Z750 has a lot more power than the 600, not just from the extra 150cc extra, but the two extra cylinders. Smaller pistons generally are able to rev a lot faster (they spin up quicker too).

FWIW I haven't ridden a ER-6, just sat on one, so the riding side of things I can't comment on, but you're not really comparing apples with apples. The ER, while it's a great second bike and looks the goods, is fairly...umm, basic, maybe a lower budget proposition (neither are the right words, but I'm sure one of the ER-6 owners will correct me).

Don't get me wrong, it looks like a great commuting machine, and from what I have read it's a great confidence-inspiring second bike, but if you are going to fang or hang onto it for a while I'm pretty sure you'd prefer the Z, especially so coming from a ZX-6R.

Mick

G'day - a few things to consider - 1. Try to arrange a test ride on both bikes. Ideally, it should be an extended ride ( not always possible ). 2. Seat heights are about the same for ER-6 and the '07/'08 Z750's. 3. 750 is obviously heavier, but really only noticeable at low speed. 4. 750 has way more go :D 5. Fuel economy averages 17 - 22 km / litre for the ER-6. Don't know about the 750. Cheers, Ron.

Mick's comments on the ER-6 are valid - it has very basic suspension. However, it is fairly forgiving as long as you ditch the OEM tyres. Q? is this bike for you or your wife?

The z750 is higher (or a wider seat) than the ER6 and the z750 tank could feel awkward for your wife depending on her body shape.

The ER6n left me with a feeling of MEH, and I can't wipe the stupid grin off my face after ridingthe z750

The bike will be mainly for the wife as it would be good to go riding together, I am leaning towards to ER6 as a good allrounder for the wife, BUT...there is that part of me that likes to "Fang" a bike if I go for a ride and I just dont think the ER6 would have enough "Fang" value.

This is why I have thought about the Z750 as it would have more of that "Fang" value and it would be more pleasing for me to ride but would the wife be able to cope ok?

I think we need to ride both and see which will suite the wife better as ultimately she will be the one riding it more often, if she likes the Z better well that works for me! :D

The local Kwaka dealer has a near new ER6 with only 1800km on it for $8k, its immaculate so I might consider that for a test ride.

Thanks for the input guys :)

the er6 is a good bike for what it is. the OEM tyres are more touring than sporty. seating position is good if you tour a bit. needs mirror extenders though. it lacks a bit of pull at higher speeds but plenty of grunt down low.

Hi Esie, She had done a lot of riding when she was younger, grew up on a farm, so she could ride a trail bike better than I could but she hasnt riden much in the last ten years.

Personally I think the ER6 is probably the right choice, I just like the 750 :D

I like the ER6F, it is a twin, alot slimmer and more manageable around town, looks sporty and they would have easier handling than the 750. Think of it as a big dirtbike on steroids, with all the road going stuff on it.
