Postby Neka79 » Sun Nov 18, 2007 9:49 pm

So since i havent used a 525 Chain before, and i cant remeber how many km i got out of the 929 chain and sprockets... does ne1 know what kinda km i should get out of the 525 pitch chain and sprockets that the zed has stock??

ill prob change em anyway cos i wanna lose a tooth on the front.... but it wont be till after xmas and all that shit is sorted...unless i have to....

currently got me 5000km up..so getting close to needing a service anyway...

the zrx is still on its original chain and its nearly got 32K on it....so i think - with careful chain manitenance - its still got a bit left in it yet ;)

the blade got abt 10,000 on the 520 pitch, and abt 15-20,000 on the 530 pitch.... i think...

didnt figure id NEED to change em yet, but i prob will...

they dont tend to last me long any way

the chain on the MFP12 is still the original one...........its up over 35k now, and still going strong. Regular maintenance is the key !

You should easy get 20k + out of your Zed chain Neka, it will depend on the wheelstand factor.... ;)

I am sure Phil's ZRX chain is OEM, and so is the one on my 12. The original factory chains are way stronger than any of the aftermarket stuff.

I have heard stories of OEM chains on ZX12's running out to >50k before they were rooted !! Its all about *maintenance*......and no wheelstands !! :D

Obsessive overcleaning and no wheelstanding ability whatsoever means mine were stuffed at around 24,000km

...that was with the alloy rear sprocket though

I'm assuming the chain on mine is the original... it's getting a bit worn at 27,000km. But I tend to ignore it, lube it when I remember, I keep meaning to clean it... and I've never adjusted it... though it needs it now.

I've got the 525 chain on mine with a 15 front and a 44 rear (that I bought off Matt here) and have put approx 1500km on it so far with no probs.

Not much of an indication of life span I know, but I thought I would chip in :D

What I can say is that the change really makes the bike boogie down low - the take off is so much better than stock and I reckon it's faster off the line than my old VTR1000 was. It revs really quick now, I've found myself hitting the rev limiter quite a few times.

The down side is that it now max's out at about 180 before it gets stupid, vibration wise. 120 cruise is also a bit of a pain - certainly it's an around town bike now.

I may actually change back to something a bit more sane but for the moment I enjoy it quite a lot!

what is standard gearing??

16-42 from memory??...
as it is, i often run out of revs in 1st gear (esp if up on 1) and it shits me..and this will be worse if i drop a tooth on the front, but it will also make it a bit easier to pop 2nd without as many revs & as much speed...

decisions, decisions....

oh yea..boy this bike is fun...
