BTW, approaching 40 but still not interested in the ZRX. And the '03 Z looks nothing like a tourer..[/quote]

Agreed, mine too an 03. :kuda: :kuda:

I've got one of each - dont underestimate how good the ZRX is  Given the choice that would be my pick - well, mine ZRX against my Z anyway ;) Both are - um - somewhat modified

I'm 65 and not interested in a ZRX. A fine motor for some but my 2004 Z1000 is just fine for me. I have modified mine slightly as well and have 131 HP at the rear wheel at 4600 feet altitude. (dyno's vary and I used it as a reference of before and after only).
The suspension was a slight issue but I got that sorted through Race Tech. Of course I'm probably the worlds shitiest rider but I have fun. Utah is Harley country so there is not much in the line of competition. Even I can beat a Harley. Jim Beam after a good ride is almost as good as sex, but with my present wife I get both. Cheers!

Sorry to get back onto topic, but my Z is playing up again. 7k RPM but no further. As previously mentioned, had the throttle body cleaned out, fuel line replaced, fuel pump pressure tested (was running to the book), K&N filter put in and new clutch cable (obviously unrelated).

Does anybody have any suggestions? I don't want to take it to a Kwaka dealer and have them replace $3K worth of parts if I can avoid it.

Without reading through the whole topic on my phone, have you thought of a common theme regarding fuel? I mean where and when you got it each time, is it a local petrol station you always use?

Admittedly find it hard that they would clog up so quickly considering all the work you just did to clean it out but it could b worth a thought.

Electrical problem related to vibration?

Side stand switch cutting out at high revs? Try taping it up or shorting the terminals... or run the bike and go around banging different parts of the bike to see if she cuts out.....

It def seems like a fuel problem. I've been using BP Ultimate for the past 18 months, predominately from the same servo. I'm thinking of running some fuel addiditve to clean out the system. Any suggestions?

The bike isn't cutting out as such, just not getting past 7K rpm.

Did they tested the fuel pressure and not just the flow?

Is the pump running when it is suppose too?

Also make sure the correct plugs are in it and in good order.
And the error codes dont mean squat, they just lead them down the wrong path.

I reckon that could be an issue, might just get enough up to 7 and then no fuel pump means it starts to starve.....

The mechanic brought in a specific machine to pressure test the fuel pump. The bike was running perfect for 3 weeks after the previously mentioned works were done. This morning it died in the arse at 7K. Really feels like not enough fuel is getting through and am assuming blockage, hence the question regarding additives.

Dunno the setup on your bike if the pump is in the tank etc, but some have screens that can get gummed up internally.

This happens alot. Will become more evident as the bike gets hoter as the bike will lean out which further highlights the issue. Happened to me at the last round of the FX last year. Couldnt get past 9K RPM. It was fine for the warm up lap but stuffed for the race and got worse as the laps wore on.
