Z1000 FORKS

03-04 forks bolt straight into the Z trple clamps, you'll need longer caliper bolts and 10mm spacers, 00-02 zx6 wheel spacers and the the Z front guard fit straight on. You will also need brake lines 75mm longer then stock

05-06 forks you wont need the brake spacers and longer caliper bolts but you will need the wheel spacers and a new front guard (off a 10 or 6 I believe )

And yes, I have a 04 front end nearly ready to go in - still waiting on some parts to arrive.

thanks for that...ima start looking for some 636 forks...also was going to get braided lines anyway, so might as well do it for the new forks..hmmmm maybe a carbon fibre guard to go with it too..

what did you do to the rear Phil? my interest is piqued..

my 04 z1000 has zx9 internals in the front forks - everything else stays the same ( so i'm told, bike came with it already done, but sounds easier than having a gixxer front end on a kwaka, I'd likely forget and end up buying wrong brake pads etc. ) ???

Thats weird seeing as the 9 had RWU forks and the Zed is USD

It was a while ago Pete, but he modified the non suspensionised leg (new word.. yay! ) and put a cartridge and stuff in it to match the other one.. Can't remember if he changed the spring in the suspensioned leg (I have a bad memory lol)

But I do know it totally transformed the bike, I still have the steering dampener on it, but it's wound all the way out, bumps simply don't upset it anymore, should mention the bike also has a totally redone zx6 shock in the bum too.
I also used to find the bike felt as though the back of it was going around the corner about 6 inches different to the front - kinda like a three wheeler but with only two, and that was with the rear shock done, not the front. Now he's just beautifully balanced on any road.

If you can get hold of a zx6 front (with brakes), highly recommend it.. you get the suspension already and a bonus is it will actually stop!

the Zeds have better brakes than the Tokiko's on the equivalent model 6.

if you want mega stoppers gotta go the newer 6 Nissins

most of that would ahve to do with the riders weight on the front and the 20-30kgs lighter bike Tanya

When i went from the Zed to the zx10, i missed the brakes and their rock solid performance, fade was never an issue even at the track.

I've just been reading this thread and it's very interesting indeed. I've just recently bent the forks a tad on my 06 Z750 and have started today to try and find the simplest and cheapest fix for it. Gixxer front ends on Zed's? Did i read that correctly? And they're quite cheap? Definitely got my attention! The question i have is wat is cheap? Has anyone gone through and done that kind of swap on a Zed with Gixxer or other front ends? I also have only a limited amount of tools but would be very keen as to how it went together, what problems were encountered and lastly pictures of the process?
