ZRX1200R starting problems

Postby jcmutschler » Sun Aug 20, 2023 5:28 pm

Hi all,

I have a big problem with my 2004 ZRX1200R. For the last few months sometimes it starts and most of the time it doesn't. When you press the starter button nothing is happening. I replaced the starter relay, I checked that there was power coming and going from the starter button and there is but there is no power going to the relay when the bike won't start. Did I got a faulty relay on e-bay or is it something else.
Any ideas on this problem, please help.
Thanks
J-C

Clutch switch could cause that
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

Lights come on when the key is "on"? Indicators?
Check main fuse?
Clutch in / out, any difference?
Don't ride as if you own the road.......
Ride as if you own the bike!

ZZR1200 ('02), FJR1300 ('19).

Could be a side stand/side stand switch issue

:D Thanks for your help guys, I was very close to burn it after spending hours finding nothing. Clutch lever in and the bike started straight away, what a relief!! Can I ride like this for a while until I get a new clutch switch?
Also, what are the best fork seals for a ZRX1200R, I have been using SKF which are supposedly the best but after six months, I have a leek again and the fork tubes are 3years old. What about Arisil seals.

Thanks again guys, it's great to have my ZRX back!!

After many ebay seals, I now sought to find original kwaka ones where possible.

I still can buy seals for 1982 bike (gpz750r1) so there should be plenty.
