Tyre fitting question

Wed Jan 28, 2009 3:53 pm

Hey all,
I went to my local tyre fitter today to get a set of Pirelli Diablo Corsas fitted ( igot from MCAS). The fitter said he wasnt going to fit them as the rear tyre is H rated and there is a risk of tearing the tyre when fitting it. He reckons he has torn some of this particular tyre before and if I bought them from him hed doit but as i bought them from a different store (MCAS) he wouldnt doit. If he tears a tyre he sells hed replace it. He doesnt want to damage a tyre he doesnt sell as hed be up to replace it if torn, I didnt want to say take the risk and then find he tears it because he mite not put enough care into doing it.....The situation he speaks of is fair enough I guess, but tearing a tyre while fitting it? anyone heard of this?

nah, the H rating shouldnt have anything to do with tearing while fitting. :?

go back to mca with your reciept if you still have it, they'll fit em to ya wheels for nothin i'd think. 8)

The shop I went to predominantly fit tyres, are well known for tyre fitting. Im in Adelaide otherwise yea MCAS would be great! Im thinking these guys just didnt want to fit tyres today (bloody hot out 44+) but ive had problems before with them as I always use ex race tyres (mine or mates) and get them to fit them, and they grizzle cos they arent selling me tyres, then they bitch about how little they make outa tyres........ hey im paying per hour to have them fit my tyres! Time for me to learn the art of fitting them at home i think!

Its probably that they dont want to go out of there way to fit someone elses tyre which i think is understandable. In my line of work if someone buys something from somewere else and has a problem and i have the answer i will do it but at a highly increased rate ;) If there prices are not too far out of the park and they are convient to you maybe try some negotiating and advise them that you will get all your tyres from them.I go through 5-6 sets of tyres per year and it has worked for me in the past. These days i also only use one mechanic for everything includidng tyres and we both do ok out of it

Tell em to get over themselves. I haven't bought tires and fitted them at the same time in years. Never had a complaint from anyone i ask to do them.

Hey all,
well i went to a shop I havent used before and got the tyres fitted no fuss, no whining. No worries about tearing the tyre......all for $40. Needless to say I ll be going to MR Motorcycles (Adelaide) more in future! Thanks for all your feedback!
