Dyno numbers for my Stock Z750

Postby James » Thu Jul 22, 2004 5:16 pm

I put my Z750 on the dyno today at Parra Kawa. My bike is 100% stock standard and has 5000kms (3100Miles) on the odometer.

Max Power: 96.4 hp @ 10600rpm
Max Torque: 52 ft-lbs @ 8200rpm

- rear wheel figures

I also went to redline in top gear with the speedo showing 280km/h.

Interesting point Smitty, Ive never really looked where the speedo reading comes from, but its not the front wheel. Its a digital speedo like the unit on the 636 and ZX10 so maybe someone will know how it picks up the speed.

The redline is 11,500, but its revs to just over 13,000 before the limiter hits.

thanks James....
I am interested...
coz..the GPx reads off the front wheel
and the cupla times I have had it dyno tuned...
.....no speed was possible (1 roller)
but I have been clocked at 248kmh...at approx
11000rpm...down the front straight at PI (man with a radar gun)
revs???
hmmm...Phantim tells me the 7 series engine
is good for......14000rpm! (you have the latest incarnation )
I have seen about 12500 in lower gears...
but there appears... no rev limiter on mine
so I reckon Tim is right....

and hp...good to see you are getting 97hp at the rear..standard
confirms mine....105 with headers, can and jetting

7 series Kwakas ain't slo...

cheers

No worries smitty,

I was offered the chance to get a dyno run for nuthin, so I said why not! Now the temptation to get a full akro and a PC111 has filled my head!

Are you referring to the '7 series' as meaning the 700cc engines? Because my Z750 engine is a relative of the ZX9 series of engines rather than an evolution of past 750's. Basically, the '03 ZX9R engine was bored out (to 953cc) and re-tuned to become the Z1000 which in turn is sleeved down to become the Z750 that I have. So there really isnt a link to past 750's. A lot of people think that my engine came from a ZX7, but, unfortunately to some extent, it has no connection with it.

I was looking at a ZX9 the other day with fairing panels removed, and to the naked eye it looks as though its engine would bolt straight into my bike. Im sure it wouldnt be that straight forward, but it is that similar. On a side note - some ZX9R aftremarket full systems will bolt straight on.

Cheers

hmmmm
interesting... the Zx750 engine used in the Gpx750
was the first of a new generation of WATERCOOLED engines
introduced by Kawasaki
everything previous mainly had been air and/or oil cooled...

and maybe I am wrong...
but I had thought all 6r 7r(ZxR750) and 9r engines since then
were based around this then new engine design...
(obviuosly with different capacities carbies etc)
but in other words they use the same basic architecture....

these engines do
differ from the 1100 and larger engines used in the ZZr's

As i understand it...
yes you are correct about your 750 being a sleeved down Z1000 engine
which is a bored out ZX9 engine...
which happens to be a bored out ZXR750 engine
....which is based on the ZX750 engine....

which is why i am interested.................. :)

(note the latest ZX7r used the same engine design but a shorter stroke bigger bore engine)

now I might be wrong with all that
anyone game to tackle the Kawasaki family engine history....
might ring my local dealer tomorrow and check.....

Good stuff James, Nice scoot and nice numbers from it, I'd be very interested to see how that speedo reading transfered into actual speed on the black stuff, think it may be a smidgen slower if you added drag/wind resistance, rider, enough space & time to get it there and Most importantly tight fitting waterproof stretchie leg undie's.
But they do like a goood reven'

Cheers Smitty,

A kawasaki family tree might be a great idea. You may be right about the connection between all the water cooled engines and they may all share the same DNA.

Pontikat - With my bulk aboard the 750, I would need to climb inside the tank to get anywhere near 280kmh. Not only that, Id probably need a very long road also. I hit 220 indicated on Eastern Creek's main straight and probably couldve squeezed some more out of it if my cahoonas were bigger entering turn 1. In addtition, these new Kawa digital speedos are optimistic little buggers - more than 5% from my experience - so the actual speed would be down.

Cheers

James 220 into any turn 1 would take Cods way way bigger then mine.

Whoa!

220kmh was done bolt upright in a straight line, Pontikat. I was doing turn 1 at 170. What I meant to say in my last post was that if I hadnt backed off so early on the straight in preparation for turn 1, I couldve got more out of it. As it was, I dont have the guts to hold it flat through turn 1 and back off way early which robs me of about 200m of road where better riders would keep acclerating.
