Not a kwaka

Postby 98ninja » Sun Aug 02, 2015 5:15 pm

I know its not a kawasaki, but I had a friend move away for 6 months and leave his 76 Honda CB500 super four with me.
He said any improvements I make to it, he'll pay me for. I had a problem with a sticking float bowl on carb number 3,
which lead me to take the carburettors out and then Its opened up a can of worms for me.

My question is, is there a way to get the surface corrosion off the engine without taking off each individual case?
Please see attached photo's for the corrosion

if you have a air compressor you can make a soda blaster to clean it. If not sur check one out on you tube

If you try to soda blast that in situ you'll be pulling material out of everywhere forever, needless to say it will get into all sorts of places. It takes about and hour to pull the motor and they are light enough that you'll be able to lift it onto a trolley. I'd pull it clean it and then stick it back in. That caked on stuff is very hard to get off but you may find a high pressure washer will work. You'll need to blank off all the engine access points and also change the oil and filter once your done.

Brings back memories... that was my first "big" bike!

It really needs an oil cooler for the summer months, but otherwise a great bike!
