The bike and the system looks great slippery "I mean slimey".... ;)

Are you running a Mk2 engine, or is the whole bike a Z1R mK2?

G'day Dave,

The bike is being rebuilt as bought - ie it's a '78 Z1-R frame with a MkII motor.

This will obviously affect its value if it becomes a candidate for sale, but I didn't start the project with that in mind
- just wanted to get my teeth into something at the time.
Tinware/panels are at the panelbeater/painter to be returned to '78 Metallic Stardust Silver (a close match thereto, anyway!)
Hope to get these back in time for fitment prior to a ride to the Barry Sheene event at Eastern Ck in March.

The values in the eye of the beholder....Don't have a problem with that at all.
Be sure to post some pics when the body work returns.... :kuda:

Slimey, pipes look good, am looking to put on my '77 Z1000. Could you post your thoughts re sound once up and running?

Will do - can't wait to get it up and running! :)
Aiming to get the carbs back together and on the bike this weekend.

Also will be fitting the wiring loom and testing/connecting all the lecky bits.
This will be a bit of a task - only loom I could get was for a u/s of A/Canuck bike and I don't have the auto cancelling blinkers hardware,
nor the emergency lighting hardware, also have had to adapt Z1000 switchblocks.

Once that's done it'll be fit lights, blinkers instruments and bodywork .
Will take and post some progressive pics.
Better put some oil into the donk and turn the motor over to get it circulating before firing it up.

Sorry guys - have been neglecting my brethren/sistren on this worthy organ!
Will open another thread on the Z1-R rebuild and drop some pics/details in there.
Cheers,
Bill.

Hi Slimmey

WOrking on a garage basket case z1r D1 and saw you beautiful restoration. Could you advise what fuel you are running and where you got your paint and engine work done.
Thanks KZ

Hey there KZ,

Glad to hear another Z1-R is being returned from the grave - as mine has.
I'll be running 98 octane - only the best, none of that cheap shitty stuff (mind you a lot of the different brands come from the same tanker, I've noticed!)
Paintwork was done locally here in Nowra, the painter (Steve Mitchell) is a panel beater and a motorcyclist to boot - so as a result he's one of the few who actually take on bike work (locally anyway)
and does a top job.
Enginework was done by the now-defunct Dave Byrnes motorcycles - I'm told it had a full recondition - rebore, new pistons, rings, bearings, valve job, cam chain - so will have to see how it performs/lasts.
