How the story begin...
For years i raced 2troke machines. CZ, Jawa, Yamaha RD... Never liked them.
I've always wanted an old Kawasaki, aircooled, 4cylinder. Maybe the Mad Max, and Stone movies left traces in me, i don't know. What i had on my mind were Z1000, Z750, or even gpz900r. Crankshaft bearing rollers would be nice.
With a lot of will, and small amount of money (Student), i started to search.
After long process of looking behind someone's barns, i found GPZ750 Unitrak.
Leaking forks, no brakes, missfiring. Nothing that cannot be solved, but with one huge problem. Starter clutch failure.
Service manual suggests stripping the engine apart. When kid who sold it to me, heard how much the mechanics in Belgrade want $ for such operation...He sold it to me.
For the beggining, i serviced everything except starter clutch, just to figure out what i might expect later. Carburation service, armed brake lines, polishing. It started to look like a motorcycle.
After few hundred miles, it turned out that engine is totaly ok, doesn't use oil, works great. back to the basis. Starter clutch.
I knew that gpz750 engine was used in zr7 also, so there must be some way to change the bloody thing without tearing everything apart. Thank you google, it appears to be.
Remove the clutch, exhust, sump, oil pump, and VOALA! secundary shaft with starter clutch goes out. I replaced it with a set from few years old ZR7.
Until spring i need to sort out few estetic details, change brake pads, fork seals and tyres (don't have money for them now), and she can go on road.
