they are getting treated to 2-pak in gloss black - just like the wheels on the MFP12 ....

the rest of the bodywork is losing the 'fluoro' green, and going to the same shade as the new green on the 12......still not sure yet about the colours of the stripes........wouldn't mind giving it a bit of a ZXR touch ? Maybe a really dark purple / silver combo......will be giving Lurch the template with a request for some different schemes and see what he can come up with.

Here are the wheels for this bike, finished prepping these up for PC this afternoon. Masking old mags is not something I want to do every day ! But these were a bit easier than the other mags that are also going in for a paint job in 2-pak gloss black.....

G'day Gos,

When masking the bolt holes, are you just placing masking tape across them and then trimming the excess with a blade?

I will be performing a similar task on my '83 and am looking for guidance. Luckily I have a spare rim to practice upon.

Cheers,
Pete

thats it Pete - lay the masking tape on, give it a good 'flatting' with the back of the blade so it sticks well - I used a small knife with a pretty sharp blade, this makes trimming the excess pretty easy. Depending on the mags, the 'spokes' may need some different angles of attack when trimming.

One other thing - the mags copped a thorough degreasing then wash with hot soapy water and then dried with compressed air - you need a good clean surface for the masking tape to stick properly.

PC also had some advice about the masking tape - it should be removed as soon as the last coat starts to tack-off. If you leave it on too long, it will be harder to remove without taking some of the paint with it - the coats of paint will bond to the tape if it dries right off.

These should be back in the 4th this weekend, so I will bung up some shots of how they have turned out.....

Thanks mate.

As per usual, you answered my current question and the next two I was going to ask.

Long live the Geepers!

Pete

How did your masking go mate ?? Its a thrill-a-minute job.........not

PC bought over both sets of mags on Tuesday - the Z1000A1 mags - and also the geeper1100 mags - here are a couple of pics - they look absolutely sensational in the flesh !! :kuda:

and these are yet to have any polishing done to the outer rim or the spoke edges ! Will give these wheels at least 1 week to fully harden up before I start any polishing....

I have also been looking for some new brake rotors for this bike - the old ones are OK but really dirty and have a few scores in them. Nothing that couldn't be taken out on a brake lathe - but looking through some brake sites I found these babies

Image

Yes indeedly - flash-looking petal rotors for a bike that is almost 30 years old !! You just have to love the economies of scale used by Kawasaki in their tooling......these discs fit all the following models...

ER-5 (ER 500 A1-A4,C1-C5) Twister Front 97-07
GPZ500 S (EX 500 A1-A6,D1-D12,D6F,D7F,D8F) Front 87-08
ZL600 A1/A2 Front 85-94
ZX750 E1-E2 (GPZ750) Turbo Front 83-84
ZX750 G2-G3 (GPZ750R) Front 85-88
ZL900 A1-A2 Eliminator Front 85-86
ZX900 A1-A6 (GPZ900R) Ninja Front 84-89
ZL1000 A1 Eliminator Front 87
ZX1000 A1-A3 (GPZ1000RX) Front 86-89
ZX1100 A1-A3 (GPZ 1100) Unitrack Front 83-93

Unreal - I can also fit exactly the same rotors to the 1000RX front wheel !! :kuda: have a look at that range - the same tooling used for brake rotors from 1983 through to 2007 !!

what is even better is the price. From the website here S3 Performance Equipment - these disc rotors walk out the door for $79.95 each............  can ya believe it ? And they do matching rears as well.

heres a little known cheat, roll a piece of bluetac & push into hole, leaving enough overhang to remove it afterwards.sounds bodgy  but it saves a lot of time & works fine. :D

Finally got the wheel bearings fitted to these wheels, and the tyres which were previously being used. This is a good thing.....

also, last week picked up the frame and swingarm which have now been powder-coated satin black (same as Cherry and Darth Ninja) - these look great ! :kuda:

Have to fit up all the new bits to the swingarm now, have some new needle bearings etc, and also that nice S1000RR shock to fit up.

Given the delay in getting the rolling chassis for Cherry sorted - it now looks like this rig will take priority in the workshop.

Will post up some pics this weekend......

A very nice job gosling 1. I hope mine can look just as good when I'm finished. Wishing I had your mechanical ability and knowledge to produce such a finished looking bike.

still got a way to go yet but thanks :kuda: I love working on the old dungers (its a term of endearment) - and can help you with info about your bike no probs. They are simple to work on and as long as the basics are done properly - they work just fine.
