The 7 Fiddy!

She has been kept under raps for some time, but i thought it was time to bring her out!

She's a 1980 KZ750E1. In need of some love, but so far, she has really reminded me of why we ride! she puts a smile on my face every time i take her out for a ride.

Image

She has a full Transac system and sounds tough! Turns heads every time you twist ya wrist!

Purchased of Ebay, it came with a spare engine and a few bits and pieces. The spare engine has apparently had a rebuild with an 810 kit. Problem being, i dont know when this occurred and the previous owner left the plugs out while the engine was stored. Hopefully its viable for a transplant. :? Has the usual starter clutch problem..... Otherwise, she seems to be pretty original and in good nick!

Love these old bikes. :kuda: Cant wait to get it sorted!!!! 8)

Haven't you seen the old girl yet ?? Its a ripper. I managed to sneek a quick spin around the block when we sorted the clutch out a couple of weeks ago, it runs pretty well.....actually gets up and boogies very well for a 7fiddy......brakes are a bit 'howyagoin', but thats not unusual...

Overall - its a great example of an old dunger.....

Geez that August ride is looking good !!!

Well, it aint going real well at the moment! Works over the weekend have been to no avail.

Stripped the carbs down to try and fix it not running well unless on full choke. She looses all power when you put the choke in..... Runs ok with it on full choke :? Seems like its flooding itself or starving itself for air!

Put new fuel hoses on it. Might have to clean the tank out on it! Could be bad fuel, but that dont explain why it runs ok with the choke fully out! :? :? Oh, the carb's ain't been as clean since it left the factory!

:( :(

As for your comments Gos, the brakes have been improved slightly since your spin. Just bled them a bit and they came up better. Still a little spongy! But i dont use em anyway! It hauls ass pretty well of an old dunger!!!

Ill be taking a look inside the spare engine in the next few days. Fingers crossed, its in good nick internally! or at least the starter clutch is of use!

I wish I could mate - I'm a bit far away to slip over for a coffee.... ;)

Whicks - sounds like its not getting any fuel. Did you take out the pilot jets and give them a tub ?? Lurch's 750 was doing the same thing the other week, its a bit odd that both bikes have almost exactly the same symptoms.... :? Time for another spanner day.....

....and Old Dunger Spanner Day would be good, I've got to have a look at the Surfer's clutch soon. It's not like I can't do it myself, but the motivation would be good ;)

Nice looking bike.
I had one years ago and had to strip and clean the carbs every 3 months or so.
It seemed to be getting paint from round the filler into the fuel causing a blockage.
A small inline filter will help too.
To improve your brakes put some braided lines on. You can get these made up if you take in your old ones to some one like the Enzed.
I had some on an old 650 Katana and they made a huge difference.

Thanks to Gos, the 750 is running sweetly again. Seems the previous owner had put the vac hose on the wrong place. Now she just needs an oil change and a new starter motor!

So, again. Thankyou Gos for your time. Boags light it is for you at CR coffee!

Well I picked it up! It's big old and dirty! But wow the sound.. it sounds absolute HORN!
Fork seals are leaking - ordered some fresh ones.
Rear shocks are trashed.
Tacho cable is missing.
Exhaust needs to be welded back onto the rear bracket.
Needs a new front tyre.
Fuel tap leaks.
And some minor oil leaks - left hand side where the missing tacho cable should go.
Hoping a brake bleed solves the almost useless front brake issue.

What's the easiest/cheapest way to replace the shocks?
Also side covers? the left side cover is missing.
Did I mention it sounds great!
I'll get some pics up soon.

Probably the best bet is to kick off your own thread in this section about your new bike, and bung the pictures up there - any info you need about fixing it up can be provided there as well....... :kuda: - there are a few of us here with older kwakkas, and we all like seeing a new 'Old Dunger' being fixed up.....

Sorry to steal your thread Whickle  but i can understand why my 550's #4 cylinder wont fire properly?

Plentry of compression (cant hold thumb over it)
Its got spark + good spark plug
its getting fuel
just not firing... :?
