OK - time for another update on the build for this baby - and get back on topic !!
I did some more time on the motor last weekend - removed all the pistons and rings. The pistons are still in good nick, and none of the rings are broken - I would like to use new ones, but after speaking to the main UK importer of Moriwaki parts, he advises that these kits have not been available for several years now, and he has nil stock of pistons or rings.....

- which is a bit of a shitter, because it means we either have to :
a) - Re-use the old pistons and rings, and put up with whatever power output we get. Cheap option....
b) - Buy a set of Wiseco hi-comp pistons, and have a nice crisp motor. Expensive option....
Given the condition of the existing pistons & rings, I am reasonably hopeful that a simple hone will be enough....it will certainly be enough to start and allow the bike to be ridden, but it will not have that *crisp* response you get with a brand-new top end. The upside of this is that we don't have to spend $800 on a piston kit either......
Within the next few weeks, I will have the cases split and a report on the condition of the bottom end & gearbox components.....crank rotates nice and smoothly, so that is a promising start. The gearboxes in these old donks are pretty tough, so hopefully I should be able to give all the parts a good clean - including the clutch plates

(NFI what these are going to look like......) - and will bung up some pictures of the pistons / bottom end in due course.
IN the meantime - it looks like we may have landed a set of AG Strada Marzocchi shocks !

- one of the local punters from CanberraRIDERS has had a set of these tucked away for many years - originally fitted to an old Moto Guzzi, he only did a couple of thousand k's with these shocks fitted, then took them off before selling the bike many years ago.....so essentially they are in new condition. The shafts - which rust up pretty easily - look in pristine condition, 1 shock has been re-assembled with new seals, the other one is still apart, waiting for the seal kit to be installed....
This is the achilles-heel of these shocks. They are re-buildable - which was the great selling point - but that was because they *needed* to be re-built regularly !!

. Anyway, these shocks also come with the original Marzocchi manual, which is quite a bonus. For $100, worth the coin, as Phil (fezzick) - wants to keep the bike as original as possible. These shocks will almost bolt straight on to the Z1R frame, all they need is a bush for the lower mount to suit the 10mm bolt. Easy to sort that out.........here are some pics

More updates will be forthcoming over the next few weeks, as the motor is pulled down to the bare bones, and I have a nudge at re-building the main jet towers in those carbs
