EL-250 starting issues

Sun Jul 25, 2010 7:39 pm

Hey guys...

My dads kwaka EL-250 is having some sort of issue starting up... its when you press the ignition button the starter motor wont engage the engine and start up... all it does is spin the gear...

I have tried spinning the starter motor with the crank case off and the gear behind the crank is the only gear that spins other than the starter motor and the one in between both of them...

I have a supplement manual that tells me jack and now am going crazy because not even google is helping me...

apparently this is the same motor as the ZZR, i dont know all i do know is that i have a cranky dad and no idea on how to fix it :?

PLS HELP!!!

Starter Sprag has shit itself........You might not have to split the cases to fix it, I am not sure about that model.

Sprag clutch is easy. Take the left sideplate off motor (might have to drain motor to avoid splashing oil everywhere. Sprag clutch connects the starter motor to the engine, thing of it as a one way clutch that lets the starter turn the motor, but not the motor turn the clutch. basically the rollers or the springs in the sprag clutch are shot. easiest thing to do is replace the whole lot if your able to, as im pretty sure it's a non-disassembleable unit, but i may be wrong, and have done so in the past.

can't remember the way it was attached on my ol bike i got it swapped on, but i don't think it's too hard to replace.
