Hi all,

If you saw in my introduction, I have been given a GPX250 to play around with.

The main issue is I can't start the thing, but I took it to a mechanic, who said they didn't have time to look at it but the issue is flooding carbies.

I took it back home and stripped off the carbies, took them apart and gave them a good spray and soaking with Red Roo carbiecleaner.

I let the bits dry naturally, and put the carbs back together.

One good thing was there were no bits left over :) .

When I reinstalled them back into the bike, I tried to start it up, but still no joy.

I have spark and the battery is new.

I then unscrewed the drain plug on the RHS carbie, but no fuel came out. Unscrewed the LHS one, same thing.

Disconnected the fuel line from the carbie input, turned over the motor and fuel was trickling out so the vacuum is working.

Removed the carbs again (getting good at this now) and blew air through the fuel input, no blockages.

Will try putting a dummy tank on this weekend with gravity feed fuel to see if that helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try switching the fuel tap to PRI as the other 2 settings use a vacuum cut off thing that turns the fuel off when the engine is not running

Krusty,

No PRI on the tap, just on, off and res.

The manual also says to put the tap on PRI.

Should I go to a wreckers to see if i can get a tap with the PRI on it?

Fuel coming outta the tap..
No fuel in the float bowl..
Would say a blocked needle jet if it was a single but not all carbs simultaneously...
Can only think it has to be a blockage in the fuel line between the tap and the carbs.
Just one more law and everyone will be safe.

did you check out the needle and seat in the carbies? could be a sticky one of those.

Also if you are keen trickle a small amount of fuel down the carbies not enough to drown it just enough to make it kick, pour in a small amount of fuel first then hit the starter and make sure you dont catch on fire.

Wont fix the fuel problem but it will make a noise for 30 second or so. :D

OK,

After I removed the carbies again, stripped them back and checked all of the parts were clean, lint free and working as they should, I put them back in, pluged in the fuel tank and turned her over.

Still no start :( but at least there is now fuel getting into the carbie with the fuel inlet hose, but the other side is dry as a bone. The only part that I didn't clean out (I think) seems to be the fuel connection pipe between the 2 carbs.

I ran out of time to pull the thing apart again, so I will dismantle the bugger this weekend and try again.

Hopefully, cleaning out this connection will be the answer :?

Worst thing is, now my battery is flat, so I need to buy a charger.

mm what year model GPX do u have

i had a similar problem with mine..
um if i remember correctly ended up being float level and needles were wrong..

and teh fuel filter was faulty and didnt work properly....

Kellz,

88 mod.

Filter all ok, float levels and needles are ok.

I'm sure it is the connection between the carbs, so I'll rip it ot this weekend and have another play.
