GPz750 R1

Postby javaman » Sun Feb 19, 2017 3:03 pm

At first I wanted a GPZ1100 B1 but the price and weight didn't appeal to me and Strika talked me out of it.

Had a go at the 750 and loved it in an instant. Apparently it is one of the best handling GPz.

Needs a lot of work cosmetically though ... I do like that all the parts but exhausts are original and even un-hacked rear fenders

Oh, and the correct colour too :kuda:

The choke mechanism lost a ball bearing which activated the notch. Without this the bike would run like tractor after a while as the choke moved ever so slightly. It would have driven the previous owner mad! Now purrs like a kitten. Took my thong and t-shirt for a nice look at Frankston sunset.

The bike came with the original airbox and a spare carbs with original jets (#110 and #3.75)

So the next obvious task is to put them back in. Unfortunately the 4 rubber duct had gone hard. So these are in order:

- 4x Rubber duct from Z1 enterprise
- Carb rebuild kit (because one of the carb lost its needle clip)

Total of about $110 shipped.

Will keep you updated. Meanwhile enjoy more pics of mint and unhacked fenders

A summary of some recent photos and dramas:

- Rode to PI with the wife for lunch and it decided to die halfway. Spent 30 minutes in hot weather to find out the main fuse holder/electrical stuff is corroded. I might redo the whole electricals

- The engine had always been rattly so I took out the camchain tensioner. Whoever did it missed putting a washer on the stop-bolt, enough to jam the mechanism, a.k.a. it had been running with no camchain tension! . Now all good :D

- Installed some new niceties such as hand grip warmer, GPS holder, USB power. I hope to take to to the Alpines this autumn.

- Carb balance is out of whack so I am waiting for carb sync tool from ebay

Image

I can't wait to respray but don't wanna do it before all the mechanicals are sorted out.

I really like riding this bike, it's so light, nimble, and careless. Never feels like in a hurry.

On the way to Reefton...
