The IC unit on a 1983 GPZ1100 should have 9 wires in total - 4 coming in and 5 going out. The colour coding is as follows:

Black/Blue/Yellow/Red - these are the input wires from the pick-up coils at the end of the crank. They should go to a small 4-pin plug connector which matches the 4-pin plug connector from the pick-up coils.

The other 4 wires are black/yellow trace - this is the earth wire for the IC unit. Red wire - this is the +12v input for the IC unit. Normally this +12v input is switched directly from the +12v side of the ignition coils (i.e. powered by ignition and kill switch).

The last 2 wires are black and green - these are the signal wires that connect to the ignition coils under the tank. Black to left coil, green to right.

There should be one additional wire - black/yellow trace - this is just an additional earth for the IC unit. That would give you 9 wires coming out of the IC unit.

Hope that helps :kuda:

Thank you Gosling 1 for very prompt reply.
Unfortunately there are no connectors on the ends of the wires which creates a major issue.
Still looking for guidance to work through this issue.

the only way around this is to get some connector blocks from Jaycar and wire these in. Jaycar do the large rectangular 6-pin connectors as well as smaller 4-pin connectors. You just need a 4-pin connector (male & female) for the pulse coil wires (from the end of the crank) - and a larger 6-pin connector for the rest of the wires which come out of the IC unit and go up to the ignition coils, earth and +12v supply.

Another alternative is to just use a single male/female bullet plug for each wiring join. You just have to follow the colour-coding to make sure the wires are joined correctly.
