Black Chrome exhausts

So I got the stock pipes on Goose. They're in pretty good shape given their age, but a bit of pitting and a few scratches.
Any tips/ideas on either cleaning them up or simply care so they dont get any worse?

Take them off and store them.
Use noisy ones for everyday riding
