GPZ 750 Brake Calipers

The brake calipers from my 82 GPZ750 don't look too good inside.
Can't help wondering if a single sided 2 piston caliper from a later model might fit on the GPZ carrier or if a later carrier and caliper might fit on the GPZ forks. Anyone looked into this?

yeh mate - what you need is the twin-piston sliding caliper from an ER5 or GPz500 twin. These have the 2 pistons on the outer side and a single sliding pad on the inside - so the width is fine. I think Kawasaki used the same style twin-piston sliding caliper on a lot of mid-capacity models through the late 80's into the 90's ?

Would be worth checking out the part numbers on CMSNL.

thanks Gos. Was that the ER5 caliper on the GPZ carrier or the ER5 caliper and carrier on the GPZ fork?

Ferodo catalogue brings up the same brake pad on the KLE500, 550 Zepher,GPX600, KL650Tengai,GPX750, early ZX10, ZRX400, ZR250 Balius, GPX250, ZZR250.
I'll look into those calipers as well.

I am pretty sure that the conversion I saw - was on a UK forum - was the entire ER5 caliper and carrier, mounted up to the GPz fork leg.

If you need a spare GPz carrier to check the fitting etc let me know, I have a few old 750 calipers kicking around ;)

I showed my calipers to someone more experienced than me and it turns out they are salvagable.
The seals have arrived so I will be cleaning and fitting new seals soon.
I'm happy to keep it original but that is good information. thanks

no probs mate - One thing I would still look to change though is the m/c. The OEM m/c on these models is a real piece of crap. A m/c from any of the ZX6R/ZX9R/ZX12R (non-radial) would be perfect. They are a bit smaller in length but look very much like a period m/c - and they will work heaps better than the long skinny stocker.

What I have found with these is that they just don't give a good feel at the lever, no matter how well you bleed the lines. The feel is always a bit on the 'soft' side.....

Braided lines is also a great idea ...

I picked up an FZ1 Yamaha mc for $25 on ebay a month or 2 ago,
I fitted that up with some other calipers that I adapted and it felt good.
