Hi all,

Trying to fix and service a GPz900R for a friend that wouldn't idle, cleaned and serviced the carbs, set the floats to 17mm from base, pilot screws at 2.5 turns out, then found out it was the 2/3 coil that was causing the issue after replacing with a known working coil. Want to replace the HT leads as they are all old and solid but these have absolutely no markings on them so wondering if anyone knows what the correct cable I need to buy is? I've been told to find out what size it is (7,8,9 or 10mm) and whether its copper or spiral cable.

Also they didn't have any DR8ES(eu according to manual) or D8EA(US according to manual) plugs in stock, can I run DR8EA's without any issues? (Have a full set never used left from a friends collection of parts I inherited).

DR8EA's are just the resistor version of D8EA plugs. You can run these no worries, but my experience of resistor plugs is that they are more prone to fouling than non-resistor styles.

Just measure the width of the plug leads - they should be 9mm. Solid-core copper plug lead is the best bet. Get some new NGK plug caps as well.

Decided with the owner of the bike that we will buy some aftermarket pattern coils, found some on ebay but they don't ship to AU, found some on gpzzone.co.uk, seem resonable about 120AU for a pair delivered, still going to be 200% cheaper than KawaAU ripoff prices. Anyone bought or had experience from GPz-zone at all?

I have used GPZ zone a lot, very good. Also, try Sean at the GPZ900 shop see link below. He is excellent to deal with.

Just a thought - a recent issue of 'Practical Sportbikes' had an article on installing modern stick-type coils into older bikes. They actually used a GPz750R as the example bike, and it looks a real easy job; will definitely be doing it to mine (when I finally get started on Project Gpz9).

I just picked up a set of stick coils from Daisy (thanks mate ) for Darth Ninja (1000RX) - will be interesting to see how these go, its basically the same motor as the GPz900/750R as far as external dimensions and suchlike are concerned....

Does look to be a pretty easy conversion.....
