Wanted to sell to a good home

G'day all, I have inherited what I think is a 1986 (it's blue and silver but could be 84-85 I'm not too sure) GPZ900, and was wondering roughly what it was worth and whether anyone in the KSRC would be interested in it, other wise I was going to put it up on flea-bay. I would rather it go to someone who wants/needs it. I originally thought I'd do it up myself put with too many bikes now I was only kidding myself. I'm mainly into vintage and modern dirt bikes and got this off a mate and couple of years ago mainly to get it into better cover as he had it under a lean-too and was going away. I've had it stored in my shed ever since.
From what I can make out it was last registed in the early 2000's and has about 50,000kms on the clock, though the mate told me the motor has been rebuilt at some stage. It has a 4 into 1 pipe on it, the tyres are good (though I'd personally put some new rubber on it), the chain and sprockets look OK. I think it would be great for a restoration bike or as a load of spare parts for someone with the same bike.
I got it fired up last week and although it would not rev out (had a different fuel tank feeding the carbs and do they have some sort of vacuum need?) it sounded sweet, with no clunks, rattles or bangs. There is a small dent on the top to the tank and has a bit of rust under the paint down the bottom of the tank on each side, clutch and brake master cylinders are also shagged but it is complete from what I can tell. Thanks in advance for any help, cheers Steve

Will try to take some pics over the next few days and get them up on here for you all to look at. Still wanting to know roughly what these bikes go for, just a rough guess-ta-ment will do. Had a look on sleaz-bay and there was one that was the same model going for $5000, though it looked as though it had been restored. I realize that mine won't fetch that much but would like a ball-park figure. I'm in Northern NSW, just inland from Byron Bay, if that helps any. Cheers Steve

Depends.
Has it been swimming recently?

Seriously, original unrestored, average condition about $1500-1800. Good condition about $3000
Dogs about $1000.
They will appreciate (thats what i tell my minister for war and finance) though so chose wisely - Do I keep, do I sell???
Such a sweet bike.

Thanks for the imput JonW and have put the minimum on it you've suggested, and no, it hasn't been through a flood. I have had to move it to bikes for sale as it won't let me put pics up on this forum. I've written a revised version of description including the fact that the speedo says 5,000ks not 50,000 that I previously mentioned, so who knows how many really. I've also put my mobile number as will be away on holiday with the family for the next 2 weeks, thanks for the imput and interest, cheers Steve

Although they are starting to build interest as a classic to restore, they are not quite there yet and as such, the values are still low. Just because come tool is asking $5k for one, doesn't mean they are worth it.

As a guide, if it requires any major work, such as paint, bodywork, or mechanicals of almost any type, then it's worth fuck all. $500 at most. If it was pristine and original with low klms, it is probably worth $2500 - $3000. No more. And it would have to have rego and a RWC for that.

Based on your description, with a rusty tank, weathered paint and engine cases, fucked master cylinders etc., It's not going to fetch you much. I would ask for $500 and negotiate from there. Go price some of the bits and you will see that it will require way more capital than it is worth to restore.

There's a red and silver one in Canberra Motorcycle Centre that looks pretty much immaculate, and I think they've got $6k on it. I haven't had the heart to tell them they're dreaming yet :).

Actually, I just found it, $8k. Must be pleasant dreams out at Mitchell :kuda: :kuda: :kuda:
