How many is too many Km's for a zzr250????

Postby tape » Wed Mar 30, 2005 4:18 pm

As the title says... How many is too many Km's for a zzr250????

92 ZZR 250 new chain sprockets etc etc.. but it has done 50,000 km's
I know it seems a lot, of those of you that have had ZZR's what is your oppinion?

T's GPx250 had 45,000 kms and had a decent amount left in it for a learner...

cheers

Umm...didn't we do this once before?

Um, well, err, again it depends on the price on it. How much are they asking?

When I got the 94' ZZR250, it had 68,000kms on it.
I'm not saying how much I got it for, but it's running well at the moment.

As Felix said Mick, depends on price but i reckon you'd get about 80 thou before it would need big money spent on it. Then maybe just a timing chain n tensioner for another 30 thou or so.

Depends how they're treated and maintained.

I know of a ZZR250 that's done over 100000km without any work other than regular maintenance.

I know of another (a GPX, actually) that's smoking badly (and has rather loud rattles) at 32000km.

my brothers GPx250 did over 260,000 km before it died*
mainly I think coz he forgot to get it serviced...
yesp, he rode it for more than 6 years and it got serviced twice (I think) in that time
just make sure it got looked after...

*
he also had a Camira 1.6ltre wagon..did over 400,000 km before it died
has this thing about not servicing stuff..
hehe

cheers

I ran into my local kwaka salesman at the supermarket :)

A brand spanking new GPX250 is $6000
I know it's more but going by the ridiculous prices of 250's resale in vic it might be an option :)

What Tanya said...sort of.

Maybe it is just me, but for something with a few k's on it, and being that old ('92 is 13 years old now afterall)...well I just think it should be cheaper.

I kinda think for that price you should look at something like that second hand 2001 GPX up here with 20,000km, for $3,900. Use a friendly qld'er for the rego address...

Either that or keep looking...or offer something like $2k...and spend the $500 on getting the suspension overhauled/bike serviced or both.

Mick,

We've had 3 ZZR-250's. The first one we bought was a 2000 model and had about 24000 k's when we got it, and about 44000 when we sold it - it never missed a beat.

The second one we bought was a 92 model and had about 70000 k's on it - it was getting a bit rough when I sold it with about 79000 k's but would have been fine for around town - just wasn't really cutting it running 100 odd k's a day up and down the freeway.

The last one I bought was an '03 with 2000 k's on it, and I put about 35000 on it in 9 months - again it never missed a beat, and felt as good at 35000 as it did when new (until I threw it down the road anyway  )

I wouldn't pay more than 2 big ones for it unless it's in *really* good nick.
