Just getting the gpx250 ready to be picked up, I thought i would give it a wash and noticed a bubble in the paint at the bottom of the tank.After pushing the bubble in i thought oh shit.

So i packed the 250 away and then noticed a petrol smell coming from the back and noticed petrol pouring out of the side.


Is there anything i can use to seal the tank? the hole after sanding it back is 20mm long and 5 mm wide.

Any help i dont want to buy a new tank since this bike is sold and just waiting for pick up.

I bought some of that two part resin crap that sets like steel from supercheap.
A mate said he had used that to fix a hole in his tank (car) and it has lasted years

Probably get it at any outo or hardware

It sounds like the tank is stuffed . Don't use the stuff from supper cheap it wont last long and you will have one unhappy customer. the only stuff to use is DEVCON 2 part mix not cheap cost a round $125 you can get it from engineering suppliers. Idid the seams on my old zzr600 tank must be clean and dry

Devcon is like an aluminium epoxy putty - its great stuff IF you can find a supplier. I searched high and low years ago when living in Newcastle - you would think with all the engineering shops up there, it would be easy to find. Well there was only 1 place that had it, and that was this crusty old engineer who had a business running out of his shed !

I used it to repair some poor base gasket sealing services on a 2-stroke motor. Some numbnuts had used a screwdriver to lever the barrels off, so there were some big gouges in the gasket area.....Devcon did a great job fixing these.

gpxpunk - you can get some normal tank-repair epoxy 2-part stuff from Supacheap, this will be fine for your small repair. But you will still have to paint the repaired area...

cheers gosling1, yeah my brother suggested the 2 part tank repair since he has used it on 2 previous tank repairs and had no problems with it.

tank is already sanded and preped for the 2 part repair kit. will pick some up through the week and attack it next week end. i had to fix some dents on it anyways from previous owners so i thought what the hell ill srespray it for her.
