GPX Carby Expert Required

My ride today consited of........
2 hr's waiting for a new Battery.........
3 hr's taking the carbies off and cleaning......

Bike is GPX 250, year?
Prick of a job to get them off but when they finally were.....
Needles gummed up like I've never seen and one of the little inlet valves that the float closes
was stuck solid.
All rubber in good nik so I cleaned up both carbies so that all parts were very freely moving.
Re assembled all and she started up within about thirty seconds with choke.
Problem........with choke you can get up to 6 grand rev's
without it, once you hit about 3 grand she dies!
Opened drain valves both carbies and nothing coming out :shock:
This means that there is only enough fuel getting through for idle speed.
Plenty of fuel getting to the carbies....just not getting in :?

hmm i reckon your drain is blocked

choke cable can be adjusted as well

Jets were gummed up bigtime :shock:
Took them and and cleaned them vigorously....purrs like a kitten now :kuda:

i had the same problem with my gpx. coz my spark plugs where too big if u have recently serviced the bike check that too or check the vacuum hose on the fuel tap it is the smaller hose it goes to the first cylinder if it is off or crimped it will run like shit down low or maybe u need a carby synchronization i had mine done and well it was the best $120 i spent on the bike
i hope u had fun with the split style air box lolz

I'm really not anal about punctuation or spelling, mor concerned about typos, however, could I please just ask you to take some time to insert the odd punctuation mark to break up your sentences? I find that in it's current format, it is painfull to read, so I just ignore it and move on. Here is an example of how your post could have been structured in order to maximise the readers enjoyment. ;)

Whatthefarkyousetalkinabout? But seriously though, i have to agree with the punctuation thing. If you can be arsed, using non-sms speak and having a crack at correct spelling would go down a treat too :D.

Gee guys i really thought this post was about a carburetor problem. Well you guys are obviously bored and have nothing else to do but pick on other peoples punctuation. I would hate to go on a weekend club ride and have to be told how to change gears, accelerate, brake etc etc.
IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU GUYS

Hi,

Just got my GPX 750R back on the road was running good, till I decides to change the oil/plugs all other fluids...and while I was at it I chuck a Moutul Fuel cleaner in a full tank of 91oct.

All grate for about 5 kms and the it started splatter splatter choke choke...promptly returned home to discover fuel backing up and flooding the air flow canister.

I them removed the fuel replaced it with fresh fuel and the problem is still the same.

Tried calling mechanics around the area and no one will touch a bike older than 10 Years.

Dose any one know of a carby mechanic in the Sydney area ?

maybe the cleaner has dislodged some crap. Pull off the carbs and check everything ie jets, slides,floats, etc. I know its a pain to get them off but it will pay off in the long run. does it splutter and then rev out like its starving? is it the fuel tap ( this caused me a bit of grief)? If it was running okay why did you stick the cleaner in? Best of luck

check all your breather hoses from the carbies as well - if these are blocked you will get issues with fuel delivery.

Pablo,

I have noticed a lot of shops wont touch old bikes either.

You could call S&R Pro at Penrith - Speak to Jamie the owner.
He is the expert you need.
They will also dyno the bike if you wish, while you get the tune. (and the dyno tune is very resonable price)
