GPX250 water pump gasket!!

Postby gpxpunk » Thu Mar 05, 2009 6:31 pm

It seems that since I have a 1987 gpx250, the water pump requires a gasket. Anything after that has an O ring instead!! problem is they dont make the gaskets anymore ihave been told from kawaskai, Is there any way of getting a gasket coz i tried the o ring and it kind of doesnt work.... I have heard you can get kits were you can make your own, but are they anygood coz i think these are mostle for cars instead of bikes. i tried gasket goo but thats crap....

at work i buy gasket paper and make gaskets for engines that would do more work in worse conditions and have never had a problem with it at all!!! there are a few differant type of materials you can buy so make sure you choose the right one and make sure its as close to the same shape to the original as possible so you dont block any holes and stuff that shouldn be blocked up.. :D

you should be able to just cut out the mating face shape of the pump itself and be alright......murphy's law always happens like that!!! :kuda:

basically you get what you pay for.....have a look at them see if they look good and feel them too make sure they aren't crumbly and bend them.....ones that have been sitting there for ages go brittle and lose their flex and just end up snapping

ok made the gasket, took a couple of hours to get it right,
put it on and it was still leaking!!!
realised it was the washes coming off the pipers so went back down to kelens and got them both,
tried to take the hoses off and realised the old owners had lost the bolts that contect the whole pump on and the whole thing come off, oil went everywhere.
So all in all between coughing and sneezing i have got the bloody thing back together for now, but will have to fix a far bit soon which im not happy with.

ok update, picked up the waterpump housing coZ the other one was cracked, found out the pump was never bolted in so bolted it in, and got it all fitted{new one off a zzr250 engine with oring not gasket thank god} filled the coolant {no leaks yay} turned her over and started to warm her up and looked under and again coolant, this time it is coming from where the pump fits onto the engine, SSSOOOOOO now ill go pick up a bloody pump{ i should have just go the whole unit} so hopefully tomorrow fixed.
Had to drive to work today in the 4 wheel cofin...... now again tomorrow not happy!!!!!!
