GPZ 750 Front fork chrome pitting

Hi All
my 1984 gpz750 left fork has rust pitting which has caused the fork seals to leak, can anyone tell me the most cost effective way of getting these repaired or replaced. I assume i would have to get them both re chromed unless anyone knows of an aftermarket option? If chroming is the better option can anyone recommend a chromer? I live in WA

can't recommend a chrome-plating place near to you unfortunately - It could be worth sending a PM to IsleofNinja (Matt) - he lives over your way, and knows his way around most stuff like this....

The best way to fix this, is to just get new fork staunchions. Replace the old ones, and job's done. Cheaper way is to send the staunchions off to have the old plating stripped off, then polished and re-plated. The labour costs for this will be fairly exxy, its a very labour-intensive job.

You can get the forks re-chromed (hard chrome) for about $500 a pair. Have a look at http://www.radhardchroming.com.au/

My neighbour had the regrinding done. Said that the only labour is to set the fork inners up in a machine that will cut the old plating off as they set it up and come and check on it periodically. I'm not too sure about the plating process. It's not cheap, but it's not as exxy as a new set of fork uppers either.

All i need to do now is remember where he said he got it done. I think he had to send them to victoria, but they had something like a 2 week turnaround, tops.
