Another ZZR600 joins the fray.

Postby Russell » Fri Jul 30, 2004 10:27 am

I've just put an ad in the for sale section for my ZZR250...
Went out yesterday and put a deposit on a silver 2002 ZZR600.
I'm extremely keen to sell the 250, because the sooner that goes, the sooner I get the 600 :D

So if anyone knows of someone with about $2.5k that would love a slightly worn ZZR250... point 'em in my direction!

ty, mick and the others... any of you guys got service manuals?

Oh yeah, ty, now you've had a few months... was that zeroG dub bub worth the money?

Man I'm itchin' to ride this new bike home

:D

kudos on the bike choice ;)
Mick has a service manual - I've got a Haynes coming in the mail, and Colette&Steve have one too. I bought mine off the repairmanuals.com site I mentioned in the Manuals thread - cost $AU40 including postage.
The double bubble is definitely worth it - looks shmick and does the job. The sports touring screen may have done a better job than the dubble bubble, but wouldn't have looked as good ;)

Thanks for that ty... looks like the dub bub will be high on the accessories list then. Where'd you get it from again?

Do any of you run a 55/100W front globe? I've got one in the 250 but I think I'll take it out before I sell it and put the 55/60 back in... Does the 600 need it or is the lighting pretty good anyway - I need as much light as I can get... country riding and all...

Got mine from Australian Motorcycle Components - couldn't find anyone else local that did screens for the ZZR600
http://www.amcmotorcycles.com/en-gb/p_1784.html - approx $170
I'm running a 55/100W globe in mine, and if you're doing a fair bit of night riding you'll need it.

Yes to both.

I have both the Kwakka manuals, the main and the supplement. Give me a yell if you need anything. I'm thinking of getting the binding professionally sliced off, holes drilled, and keeping them in a folder. This'll also make it easier to scan.

I also run the 55/100W bulb, I need it out here to get the drop on the roos and foxes. Apart from blowing the low beam once, no issues. I use a Narva bulb though, and it's got an abnormally wide beam, I think there's something wrong with it. However, it lights up a lot of road so I'll keep it until it blows.

Congrats on the bike, I like the 2002 colouring...although I think the 'silver' you're referring to is actually a very light gold-silver. 8)

Great choice in ride! You will get few complaints from me, and I doubt from Ty either!

All the best with selling the 2fiddy soon.

Cheers for that Mick... If you manage to get it scanned before I get desperate enough to go buy one, I'll definitely be up for a copy :)

As for the roos and foxes, That's my main concern too... I've got a 55/100 in the 250 now and I like it... looks like it's another immediate upgrade for the 600 when I get my hands on it! :)

55/100 so you say? hmm was it unbelievably difficult to change on the zzr (did it require fairing removal), or could you do the bend the wrists at unnatural angles to fit it in?

i'd like to get a brighter globe cause i do a fair bit of night riding in these here country parts...

where did ya get it from? an auto house like super cheap?

Mate mate mate maaaaaate,

Don't believe the removal of the fairing advice, do this:

This is how you do it, takes 15 minutes and all you need is a #2
Phillips Head screwdriver and a 10mm open-ender.

* Remove the 4xPhillips head screws and remove the 'Cover-Head Lamp'
from under the fairing (between the fork legs). It's easier if you
turn the front wheel left and right so you can get at them.

* Pull off the lower spade connector on the horn. Leave the other
one on, that way you can't mix them up.

* Remove the 10mm bolt from the RHS of the 'Joint-Brake' (where the
hose from the master cylinder comes down and splits in two to go to
each caliper). The bolt is 35mm long, hence the requirement to
remove the spade connector off the horn. It's easier if you turn the
bars to full lock to get maximum clearance.

* Loosen the 10mm bolt on the LHS. Swing the horn out of the way.

* Pull off the electrical connector on the back of the bulb. Pull
off the protective boot, and undo the retaining clip. Remove the
bulb.

* Tuck the electrical connector and the retaining clip out of the
way. Put in the new bulb and clip it in.

* Put everything back in reverse order...Voila!

Things to be careful of...

1. Don't scratch the fork legs with the screwdriver or the open-
ender.
2. Don't loosen the LHS horn bolt too far and remember the two bolts
that hold the horn on also hold your brake hoses rigid at the
joiner, and the joiner to the fork mounts. BE CAREFUL while one bolt
is off as they are movable and you may damage the hoses or the joins.
3. Don't touch the bulb glass.

The standard bulb is 60/55W. IMHO this is too weak for country
riding. I've been using a Narva H4 12V 100/55W bulb (Part #48911BL)
since I picked up the bike 18 months ago with no problems.

Don't buy el-cheapo bulbs from Supa Cheap, they're shite.

Spend a few extra bucks and buy Hella or Narva.

'Cept Troy has a GPX250 :D

On the ZZR250, I can get at it through the front forks and under the upper fairing. That said, I DID take the fairing off to replace it... I already had the RH side fairing off for something else - and it's only a 5 minute job to get it off anyway...

As Mick said above, Don't get one from super cheap. I bought mine from Better Spares in Islington - If they ask you what you want it for (they're not legal for on road use - apparently) just tell 'em "for a bike".

I've also got the Narva one Mick mentioned above.

Aaaah Islington, land of the fair maidens ;) [wink wink nudge nudge to
all who know what I mean]

Cheers Russell and RatMick, will buy the narva and have a good think
(and a tinker) before deciding to do this one...(can already envision
cursing and contorted limbs)!

Sounds like fun :) what else am I gunna do on a Saturday morning....

O btw (major thread hijacking here) I got my bike back on Saturday arvo
(after 6 weeks!), and besides us all forgetting about the rhs mirror
that needed replacing, the job was excellent...repairs to the fairing
(major chip as well as several scratches) have been fixed and I can't
tell that a fix has been done...nice...and all that to a Mr Sheen
covered fairing! Eat that all you Mr Sheen haters :p

so I'm riding again woo hoo! It's a top day for the ride home from work
today too...
