zzr 1100 front guard

Postby Matty C » Mon Aug 26, 2013 4:26 pm

Hey all
My 1997 zzr 1100 front guard has broken around the left hand screw. I'm not turning up much with a google search. I spose this part is most often smashed in a bingle. I have heard that zx9 ones fit.

Anyone know of where I can find one?

Interested?

From what I learned in the other thread its a zx9e. It bolts on ok, but there are no fittings for the bottom screws. I've heard of people using everything from silicone to cable ties and there are heaps of pics on the net with them fitted so it must work.

Thanks Daisy
I'd prefer a black one prolly a zzr one too. But if I get desperate I'll let you know.

Cheers

Thanks Brett
Looks like I gotta take off the front brake lines to get the rear piece off. Is that right?

Cheers

Pretty sure I could wangle them off with the calipers in place, but surely easier if you remove the two bolts holding the caliper on - then they can be swung out the way (on the brake lines).

I realise this a late reply to an old topic but....

My ZZR1100 front gaurd was damaged due to (I suspect) a mechanic not tightening the gaurd bolts when doing fork seals and headstem bearings.

the 2 tabs on the front half had broken off etc.

I was given a ZX9R front gaurd as a freebie from another forum. It fit but the 4 mounting holes had been elongated so it would be bolted up. I didn't have the fork covers to go with it. It did the job as an interim.

I've seen some 11's with the ZX9R gaurd mod and when done properly, it can look the goods but I found the gaurd too short and as I tour a lot, I wanted something to help keep crap out of the radiator.

As I was not in a position to repair and paint my damaged 11 gaurd (tools, knowledge and facilities) I took the option of ordering a new one. I got one through a kwaka dealer in Brisbane, brand new from kawasaki, both halves of the gaurd, already painted in the colour of my model (2001 and you cant pick it is a replacement) for about $400.

Bit exxy, but by the time I repaired, prepared, sourced paint etc and the situation I was in at the time - this was the best option for me and I am very happy with the result.

Side note: I bought a "pyramid fenda extenda" from ebay....additional protection for the radiator (even with beowolf radiator gaurd) and keeping water off the feet.

Yep, I've done a R&R with the front gaurd by removing the brake calipers.
