Oh look! A bare frame. After the nine I said I wouldn't do this again, but here we are. dontknow.gif

Image

So we lay it over the motor ...

Image

Add the swingarm, under tray and all the bits that go on the subframe ...

Image

Wiring loom, wheel, right rearset and brake system ... and swap the engine cradle because it went sproing! when I undid it. The new one fits much better and also has the VIN sticker on it.

Image

and then it rained. Not really what I had in mind when I said I wanted the job wrapped up. I was hoping to get the front end back in so I could at least roll it under cover.

Great work Daisy. Will you sell her when you're finished?

Haven't decided yet. I certainly intend to do some serious kays on it before I even think about it. I can't keep this and the 9, so one day one of them has to go and while the 9 is nice to ride it starts being hard work after 7 or 800 kays.
Honestly, I'd like to sell both of them and 3 cars and buy a 1400GTR. ;)

I need to bring this thread up to date.

The bike is finally under cover so I can work on it even when it rains. Gotta try to mate up the plastics from 4 different bikes.

Image

and the radiator fits pretty well, just the screw holes for the guard are a little off and the edge of the frame is just touching the fins at the very bottom. I don't know yet if this will be an issue due to vibrations.

Image

The lower fairing had a bit chipped out at the bottom

Image

find a scrap of plastic ...

Image
Image
Image
Image

Someone had tried to glue a piece of tube on here and it was only hanging by the bit that was stuck to the heatshield mat

Image

so I got a piece of the same type of plastic from the old broken glovebox lid (PP+ABS+GP15 I think) and heated it up, then rolled it into a tube and cut to shape

Image

This one only had the end broken

Image

so I cut a circle and glued it in with plastex

Image

I mucked up a bit with that one and the bottom of the fairing halves don't meet when its all screwed together, so I'll have to cut it back a couple of millimetres and re glue it.

Last one was this where the captive nut was no longer captive. Straightforward glue a new bit in and drill a hole in it.

Image
Image

There isn't much chance that I can get it painted in the next couple of months because winter is here (and I needed it for a FarRide yesterday) ... so last weekend I put it all together, took it for a quick ride Monday morning to make sure everything worked as it should, then dropped it in for a roadworthy inspection - which he did in 5 minutes while I waited :D - and had it registered that afternoon.

Image

So I went on my ride yesterday and at 10pm on the way home it was so cold that the carbies froze up - as did my visor. I don't think either of us like the minus 2C weather. I wasn't surprised though, thats exactly what the other 11 does. Played up again this morning in the frost and by 4.30 this afternoon as the temps plummeted again it was missing and surging. Lucky we were only 5 minutes from home then.
Definitely not a winter bike ... but I still put 1800 kilometres on it since Monday. :kuda:

My 96 model 1100 was a Jap import and had the water heated carbs to stop the carbs freezing. I think the UK bikes also had it. Might be worth hunting a set. ZZR1200 had them too. Might be same carbs as 11? I disconnected them from my 12 and the carbs froze when I was in Canberra...
BTW this is what shits me about the write off laws- it discourages things like this which is a great bit of recycling and a cheap way into a cool bike. :x :o

We were considering getting UK carbs for the other one, so now that we have double the problem it looks like we'll have to get two sets.
I sort of agree with you about the writeoff laws - but there are some unscrupulous people out there who either don't repair things to a decent standard, or do dodgy shit like rebirthing and they are the ones who ruin it for everyone else.

Oh, it wasn't cheap either.
