Just got a ZZR600

Postby COOKIE! » Mon Oct 24, 2011 10:11 pm

hi guys new to the world of bikes and just got myself a 1997 zzr 600,Silver over black, got it off a family friend and its only travelled 15,000klm.

been riding it around heaps and can now see why people dig it so much, i never thought i would get into bikes as much as i have.

one quick question though is i have read on here talk about D or E series 600's how do you know what you have and what are the main differences.

thanks in advance :kuda:

You have an E model. D only ran from about 1990 to 1993. Great bike. E looks a little better and a good impersonator of a D series 1100. :D
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

Congrats mate. ZZR600 E's are a cracking bike. I still love riding them. Very well balanced, a silky smooth and powerful motor with loads of midrange torque for a 600. I hope you enjoy it. Some tips for keeping an E healthy. Watch your changes from 1st to 2nd gear. If they have a weak spot, it's 2nd gear. It's the first thing anyone will check on them. Be smooth and use the clutch to go 1st to 2nd to minimise wear or damage. they are a clunky box at the best of times, but if you look after 2nd gear, it will last.

The other thing they need is a decent rear shock and some fork respringing and revalving by a suspension guru of your choice. It transforms them from capable sports tourer to road carving weapon.

The motors on these are crackers. I know a certain engine builder who got more power out of a ZZR600 E motor than they ever did out of the next two generations of ZX6R's. This motor I speak of, ran to 16,000rpm reliably for an entire national Supersport season in 1994. It sounded glorious coming onto the chute at the Island with 16,000rpm singing out through a certain brand titanium pipe!!!

Nah mate..... twasn't me!! It was someone else steering it. I was on my old YZF600R E back then, just before I bought THE ZX6R which still sits in the shed eagerly awaiting my return to the racetrack. I have decided it sits until it has a "proper" Historic class to run in. 8)

aahh gotcha.

You could be waiting a few years before Period 7 gets the nod !! but in good news for the 83-89 crowd, Period 6 now has got the nod as a support class in the Historics at next years WSB round ! Yay for P6 !!
