Why wont my engine like it use to?
Why wont it maintain 3k revs at startup and then stall?
Why wont the engine maintain 1.5k revs once it has warmed?

Well it could be either fuel, electrical or mechanical. They are the three reasons that something won't run properly. It all depends on what has been done and when.

You'd have to provide more information for anyone to help you. What suburb r u in?

Point taken. I have a Kawasaki ZZ-R250 93 model.
No mods, stock standard
Last Xmas the idle speed became erratic, as it was the warmer season I was not bothered by it, but by winter the issue became a problem. I would start her up and virtually ride off straight away, only when I had to stop for a Stop Sign, the engine would stall. As I started it again and rode off it was ok after warming up. This has occured for some time, but now I want to sell the bike because I bought a bigger one.

I want to present a well turned out bike without the issues of trying explain to a potentially novice rider what the problems are, this is why I need some help.

What have I tried so far?
Started the engine and noticed a hissing sound, removed the carby, checked it over and refitted it, no problems. Started the engine no hissing, but the idle speed is all over the place 4k+ revs, adjust idle speed down to 2k revs, give it a rev, and back up to 4k+ revs, adjust idle speed again and so on, not having much luck at all.

I live in Forest Lake so if there is anyone close by that will care enough to have a look, it will be appreciated.

Did you chemically clean the carby to remove all the gummed up shit?
Doesn't take a lot to jamb needles and floats etc
Jet's clean?

Yes the carby was cleaned, jets checked for cleanliness, bowls are clean, needle and seat not worn, carby cleaned using NF Contact Cleaner, same stuff we use for the now retired Pig (F-111) and current Rhino (Super Hornet) cleaning agent.

Works on pigs and rhinos, never been a concern before, but just maybe I will use something else, whata ya reckon would be a good substitute?

Oh did I tell you I am a Novice at repairing bike bits.
I gave you all a layout of the difficulties I am having, apart from a few tips and advice there is really nothing more to add which really goes to show I have simply wasted my time trying to fix her up instead off opting for a recognised mechanic.
My simple questions have not been answered with any genuine alternatives to try; what to use to clean carbies and jets? What other things should I be looking for in the carby? Do you think the carby might need rebalancing?

I feel like I have wasted your time or you have taken great pleasure in making a real arse of people that need genuine help?

Mate your reaction tells me that you are just expecting us go fix it for you.

You have simply said that it won't idle either cold or hot. Farm that could be a thousand things.

Try this:
Clean carbies with carby cleaner
Drain floats bowls. These hold interim fuel just above your carbies. You mAy have shit sitting in them but it is unlikely if you have had the carbies rebuilt.
Change plugs as you may have fouled one or 2. More likely 2 as the bike should till idle ( although roughly) with one fouled.
Check leads and connectors. You may have one connector stuff.
Check fuel pump for flow and blockage. Take the tank off and remove fuel pump hoses ( connected to the bottom of the tank) breathe through them to make sure they are clear and open. Then reconnect to fuel pump and dissconect from carby. Start bike to make sure fuel is coming through both hot and cold.
As above check breather hoses. I have seen instances where wasps have set up nests in there. This cause air starvation and fuel lock depend on location of blockage.
Drain and change fuel. Just remove fuel pump whilst tank is off to remove fuel.
Check side stand switch. It may be dodgey and causing bike to stall intermittently.
Check choke is shutting off properly. It could be flooding engine.

Mate everyone on here is pretty helpful. Even to the extent where we would be willing to show you how to do all this, how lever you haven't given us much to go on. It literally could be fuel, spark or electrical. A mechanic would have to go through all this also. Try the above and feed anything back to us you find. Help us narrow it down for you.
