How do you adjust the Choke when it appears to be not working properly?

When I start the engine the choke is manully adjusted accordingly. The engine revs at 3-4000 and then idles down to zero and stalls.
I adjusted the clutch cable without any luck therefore, I suspect there is a problem with the clutch, so I disconnected the cable and manually operated the clutch with the engine running. The revs were at 3-4k, so I adjusted the idle screw down to 1-2k revs and when I manually pulled the idle lever back the revs reduced instead of increasing.
Is there any fault finding stuff I can do to help locate the problem? Or do I spray the choke adjuster and spring with WD 40 and hope?

What is your opinion?

WD the cable first...... try one thing at a time preferably the easy ones first, umm & in Neutral there shouldn't be any output to the clutch?

Ok, I've used WD as suggested, kicked over the engine but before I checked the choke I noticed air being sucked from between the air box and carby. Suspect the carby and spring doovy connector is leaking beneath. Removed carby and checked bowls, needles and jets, sprayed WD near to choke mechanism.
Is their anything else I should be checking for, and is there any trade secrets for installing the carby so that the air box pipes connect to the carby all the way around? It always the most painful part of placing things in the right place.

Oh and when I pulled the bowls of one had more fuel in it than the other, got any clues why this would be, or is it not a concern?

and how exactly did you do this ? are you sure it was the clutch cable ??

Why would I be concerned about the clutch when I referred to the choke earlier?

My bad, I actually wrote clutch instead of choke. As my orignal problem is with the choke but I think I have got that sorted. I'm going to put the carby back in this morning. Two questions follow:
1. Is their a way of ensuring the airbox rubber boots slide into the carby without having to fight with it?
2. Does the accelerator cable connect to the top or bottom lever?

Loosen your hands a little

so far i found the only way to get the rubbers on is to fight with them, maybe spray them with wd40 or something similar or soak them in something to soften them up,

High temp grease around the inside of the maifold, it will also help to create a seal, dont use WD as it contains solvents that might affect the rubber

Having a look at the manuals on line I have not seen if the acclerator cable is connected to either the top or lower link, my way of thinking it is probably the lower one, would this be correct?
