Postby kiboy » Wed May 18, 2011 8:44 am

Hi, am new here but here`s one right in head quest. Plz can you advice me some right service info. Generator chain and chain tensioner on ZZR1100 c1. What is service interval for this. Few days ago I broke my Zed. Just to start him to move from parking and somethin snap , (was loud crackin).
When I open clutch cover, , tensioner was broken and litlle pin was breakn & stuck in clutch basket and broke plates, 2 springs, and inner plate...nice party...
So i found a almost new clutch (from broken zed), have allready new springs, and clutchplates, my zed well be on road pretty son. Question is, what is a life time for that chain and tensioner, how could I know exept by hearing or reading in service book when is time for change...My bike wasnt makin "that chain noise"..I would not like to have same party again when go on holliday with all stuff on bike..
Sorry on bad english am europe guy so I dont speak everyday engl. Thanx in advance , am very happy founding this forum, real gold for Zed fans!

New parts are on way to my garage. New tensioner for generator chain , and new chain. Got new parts for clutch so it gonna be a nice weekend job. Hope to get my Zed out in few hours.
Still 1 quest left. What is a right mileg, for inner chain. Some mech are for 5000km, others 25-40oookm. I belive that its allright to check every 5.000 or10.000 when carbs should be serviced...but thats all. Its expencive stuff new tensioner like a 140 euros.....

It is a design fault that all Kawasakis of that engine family suffer from. My ZRX had two lots of clutch pressure plate, tensioner and chain fitted under warranty and it is going again. :x You can hear it banging on startup and see witness marks on the clutch pressure plate from the tensioner hitting it. Eventually you get the problem you have had. Now my bike is out of warranty it is my problem so I am going to fit a sleeve a guy called Maladezo from ZRXOA makes that limits the travel of the tensioner so that the clutch basket can't be hit by the tensioner. Kawasaki should be fucking ashamed they haven't fixed this problem yet. They have only had since 1984 (GPZ900R) to fix it.

can you make some pic of that modd!? Mine just broke on parking lot. I start the engine and hear some banging sound from right side of engine. I assumed what happ but I had a complete new clutch in ZED. When I think aboout costs...Only basket is about 320 euros + plates, springs, top and inner cover, bearings...damn. I pass easy on this 1. Thats why I ask other bikers, is it true that you have to change so often. Chain is not so expencive, but all job about it..that doesnt look at all as "just light service" (oils, sparks, filters).
As you said , shame on Kawasaki that such a nice engines have such a stupid solution. Mine is in great shape, I dont want to change it cose 1 tensioner and lil chain problem. Maybe if cash flow 1 GTR 1400 would be fine ride to eat miles til that happ Am on road with my Soulm8
